Looks really nice. Be keeping a close eye on this, look forward to playing it.

So regarding the gameplay, is there a "game world" as such that you move around in or is it more a series of battles?

I think that if they had spent half the effort on their game that they did in trying to "prove" that you copied them, then their Kickstarter might not have failed.

Also, I don't understand why a developer would pull their own plug on a KS campaign. At least see it through. I've seen some photo finishes and "miracle" endings when all hope looked like it was lost.

You gotta be careful with a Kickstarter, best way of action would be to try and get noticed by TouchArcade and have them write an article about the game. That way, more people would be aware of what was going on. You also don't want to set your goals super high, most of your revenue will come from game sales anyway.:p

@crimsomedivine: Kickstarters are tricky. We certainly have realistic goals. Our intention for now is to shoot for 2-2.5 grand. Simply to cover business costs, acquiring a mac laptop to do iOs builds, and possibly a windows phone to test windows builds. Anyway, it's far from an unattainable goal.

And luckily people have been very willing to write about the game without us asking, Indiestatik, Gamezebo, Indiegames.com, and Pocketgamer. I suspect they will also announce our kickstarter when it happens. A few bloggers have also said they'd promote it.

@jgainsbrugh : There is a type of leveling. You acquire "foci" or "focuses", these allow you to add extra effects to your spells. Such as double damage, life stealing, swapping elemental bars with opponents (very handy if you only have 1 element left and they have 3), swapping HP with the opponent. All kinds of fun game changers.

There will be no gear. The game is meant to be quite simple. Easy to play, difficult to master (like chess). Plus, adding things like gears adds a lot of variables to the strategy and imbalances gameplay (or makes it more difficult) so I've left those things out.

@grenadedodger: I've toyed with the idea of a map for single player. The single player experience is much like mortal combat, you work your way through a series of opponents and challenges, inbetween those are cutscenes of story. It's fairly linear in that regard. I'd of course love to have a map with multiple progression routes but i'm not sure there is time for it.

    @MrMojoRisin: I agree!

Interested in this game only because of artwork. Let's see some actual gameplay.

What kind of actual gameplay? There is a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jerCGUgUfMw .

or do you want an unedited play through?

My programmer has been away for more than 2 months now. We were just about at a point where we could create a new video to show our updated gameplay but stopped just short.

If someone were to ask nicely, I wouldn't mind posting an unofficial play through showing off some more of the game.

Awesome! Thank you for that support. Within the next two months I will be looking for some people to help me test the game and work out any kinks in the mechanics. You seem like a worthy candidate!

Though...the test may not be quite what you expect. But i'll be revealing what that means in a short while. I know I'm being very cryptic, I apologize :p

Being cryptic adds mystery! Great way to keep people on their toes :D More gameplay sounds great too but only if you have time for it, don't feel rushed!

    Dear kind person.
I ask of you so incredibly nice if you could please post an 'unofficial' play through showing off some more of the game? :)
This game looks so wonderful and I would absolutely love being able to see more.
I thank you kindly with all the niceness that I can put in this post.

Was that nice enough? I hope so. Cause I would love to see more!
    Thanks!

Haha, very nice. Well I'm a sucker for a fan! I'll be uploading a bunch of videos I made for our sound team to show them the basic flow of a duel, and each specific animation so that they could start making music/sound fx.

So check back here later today (it'll take awhile to upload the videos).

    Videos!

    Alright so here they are!

I would like you to keep in mind however that this is the version I don't want the public to see lol. There are bugs in the rules, animations, backdrop etc.

Foci have not been added. This is being played on the PC (though we do have an android build I play often).

It may be confusing to watch if you don't know the rules (though some aren't working perfectly anyway, and some have changed since this video was shot).

So here is a short description of how each element works in this video:

There is a little tab you can bring up (which you see in the video) that tells you what each does.

Fire offense: 1 damage, which is doubled if used on air (meaning if someone has an air shield up and you use fire on them, it does double damage). It also disables the opponent water or ice for the entire round.
Fire Defense: Blocks Ice and Water attacks, vulnerable to air (meaning if you have a fire shield up and someone uses air offense on you, it'll do double damage).

Earth Offense: 1 dmg. Causes opponent to lose control and randomely play and offense or defensive element.
Earth Defense: Blocks fire, earth, water, ice, lightning

Ice Offense: 1 dmg, double damage against water shields. Reduces opponents turn time to 5 seconds.
Ice Defense: +1 health point, blocks fire, earth, lightning. Makes you weak to water attacks.

Water Offense: 1 dmg, doubled against ice or lightning shields. Disables opponents fire for a round.
Water Defense: Blocks Fire, +2 health points, vulnerable to ice and lightning attacks.

Air Offense: 1 dmg, doubled against fire shields. Steals 1 random element from opponent.
Air Defense: Blocks/Absorbs Earth, Ice, Air, Lightning, Water. (meaning if those elements are used against you, you actually steal them from your opponent and can use them yourself next turn). makes you weak to fire attacks.

Lightning Offense: 1 dmg, doubled against water shields. Opponent loses their next turn.
Lightning Defense: re-enables a random element for you. makes you weak to water attacks.

Are there any other rules you would like explained? That's mostly it. A new round starts when all the elements are used up. Foci (when implemented) alter how your elements work.

That looks awesome. Are there AI opponents in the game yet?

Yes, but it's quite dumb at the moment. In a previous build the AI was very challenging, but since the game rules changed a lot, we haven't had time to update the AI.

Rest assured in the final version you'll be able to enjoy playing against a complex AI. The way it works is similar to a chess computer. In that it thinks as many moves ahead as possible, and considers all options, then picks the route it feels will lead to it's victory. It re-assesses every turn.

We can also program "personalities", so a more aggresive AI, a more defensive, etc. It will scale in difficulty as you progress through the game.

    Thanks!

Here is a little riff of music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbzhBwDyV_k

It's just a short piece by the sound team, they've started working on some tunes again. This won't be in the final game.
