I think everyone here on TA has a passion for gaming on this platform, and that there is some kind of game -be it a classic game from your childhood, or a completely new game, that will entice us to buy it at whatever price. But as far as the amount of games I buy, they couldn't all be $50 games..to COMFORTABLY afford..I'd say $5 and below.
Like some people have said already, I'd pay up to about $40. Of course, it becomes much less of an impulse buy at that point, but a good game is worth it. Higher prices aren't a relic of "the way things used to be", they are the only way developers are going to have the budget to create console quality games. Most of the fun I've had on my iPhone comes from console/handheld ports like Streets of Rage or Cocoto whose higher production values despite lower prices were subsidized by the purchase of the Genesis/DS game at $39 or whatever the price was at the time. Sandstorm is great, but would it result in a passable game on the PS2? Probably not. If Gameloft knew they could get $40 for it instead of $7 (and still have people complaining about THAT price), they could throw more money towards higher production values. But until people are willing to shell out more money, we're going to get shallow games or quick ports.
i think we have to be realistic about what kind of games the iphone can reasonably handle. the gaming experience on the iphone will never be the same as on the ds/psp because of the lack of real physical buttons. another thing to note will also be the fairly weak battery life. i have just started a poll on this: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=30682 sure, developers can try to push the limits and do 3GS-capable graphics but what kind of battery life will you get? 30 minutes? increasing the cpu speed and improving the gpu is pointless if the battery life doesn't improve to handle 3D games.
I will comfortable pay 10 bucks for a game. Anything qbove that then i wouls start to second guess myself.
I won't bother to much paying $10,- for premium games and even more (like $20,-) if the games are full fledged handheld quality games. Hope to see something like that happen (GTA maybe).
I would happily pay 70 CAN for a game that is worth it, like I do on consoles and not feel bad. Hell I don't when I get games for my 360. It would allow me to purchase less is all. I think developers could go up $20 and still sell quite well. I am really interested to see what Rockstar does with GTA: CTW. I hope they have the balls to step up and say, "Our game is worth more then your 9.99" because it is, unless they break it up somehow. I would have gladly paid another $10 for games like Dungeon Hunter where the gfx are top class and you get a lot of game for your money. I think it's a game that could have been released on the DS (if the system could have handled the gfx), been well receipted, and sold for 29.99. We are so spoiled on the App store, and I love it, but I know the developers deserve to have their fare share of money from the work they put into a project, otherwise they won't put as much money into the next one(s).
If the game is really worth it, i'll buy a 5.99 game or above. But other than that, I would wait for it to be on sale or just buy lower-priced games.
I think this is kind of a wierd "problem" people have. You guys own iphones and ipods for a lot of cash and you are whining when a game costs more then a buck!? Where i live (Sweden) the 3GS 32gb cost about 1k - 1.5k USD. If you can afford that, how the hell can you moan when games cost 1 lousy dollar? =) Even if the game are really bad i just cant see how a buck for a game is "expensive".. EDIT: Lol i didnt answer the question. I would easely pay 50 bucks or more for a game that i enjoys as much as, for example, i did with FFVII on the PS.
I read something from Carmack saying that iPhone games will never get off the ground if people wont pay premo prices(or no NEW large-game IP's), Im willing to drop 20 dollars e-z if the game is serious bsness, and up to 50 if its legendary
