Tell me what is or will it be?! SOMEONE? Or I can't say if I agree or don't agree with the GOTY choice.
We dont know what it is yet, but WE DISAGREE with it already. People have spoken. Look at the poll. EVERYONE disagrees with TA's (future) choice for GOTY.
You gotta admit... There are a couple of epic fails in the Buyer's Guide. No use getting upset with the community for being outraged by some of the picks, and oversights. No Galaxy on Fire 2? Not a single Gameloft game (Spider-Man, Modern Combat 2, etc).
So who thought neither Galaxy on Fire 2 nor any of the Gameloft games were worth mentioning? Maybe someone is asleep at the wheel.
If it's not a Doodle game, or a stick figure game, or a tower defense game, or a zombie game, I'm gonna be pissed. Is there a stick figure doodle tower defense zombie game?
I actually was wondering about that, I wasn't a huge fan but I think Angry Birds made the most news... (except maybe doodle jump?! ) Aralon was only just released, can it really be called game of the year if it was barely within this year...? Perhaps those results are a lil slated towards the most recent releases! Anyway Game of the Year is really something everyone has to decide for themself because its subjective so people should just chill. Thanks IMNS for the thread /mini-rant over!
I probably despise Gameloft more than you do , but a lot of people enjoy their games, and would probably have more fun playing Modern Combat 2 or Spider-Man than say something like Godville. But, like I've said before, I think the Buyer's Guide is fine for the most part. I'm not the one protesting it.
Well actually it was a joke because everyone seems to forget that Angry Birds came out LAST year. That said, it didn't actually gain all of its traction until THIS year, so I still think that it's worth highlighting that in some way. As for Aralon, it doesn't really matter that it just came out. It still came out this year and it's significant enough in a number of ways that its worth highlighting. But you're right, all of these choices are all just opinion, and there's no way to satisfy everyone.
That's another thing. Gameloft games for the most part aren't like AMAZING, at least most of them, but there is something to be said for the fact that they try to bring big console experiences to iOS. It's probably worth highlighting that in some way too. We'll see.
So, Aralon deserves its title, but also other games. The game of the year is definetly a personal choice. Concerning the buyers guide, I'm quiet disappointed. There are a lot of game missing, games of high quality and that would deserve to be on that list. I suggest to rework on those lists.
Yup, AB is in an unfortunate spot (Angry Birds and "unfortunate" in the same sentence?! lol); it came out last year, but gained its relevance this year, making it technically ineligible. But I agree that it should be recognized.
Really funny thread. Choosing this years GOTY is going to be really hard. Spider was an outstanding game and an easy pick for 2009 GOTY. I can't think of this years game that gained this much love from such a diverse customer base. So whatever the choice is going to be, it's going to be completely unjustified.
Ways for the TA crew to surprise us this year: 1. No GOTY article. At all. 2. Back up Aralon. Ask the developers to write the review, who else can better understand the intricacies of the game and the pain of the development process ? 3. Choose a second tier Gameloft game, something like Hero of Sparta 2. Any other ideas ?
