God damn it. You all have been brainwashed by hodapp. WTH are you guys talking about?!?!??!?!? Space Miner SUCKS. And it sucks BIG TIME. WTH was TA thinking Dont ask me why. I dont need a reason. The fact that TA pciked it up is reason enough to say it sucks!!!
I should report you for double posting . And yeah Space Miner... not bad but not my choice. Still think GTA should have won but thats just me.
I can understand space miner as GOTY, but carcarassonne as runner up?!?! This and the Lara Croft review have really made me question this site.
I have to be honest, horrible choice. I am curious about the thinking behind too, there are games like Infinity Blade, Real Racing 2, and you come up with a game that some people haven't even heard of. I guess you can't change it now, but I just wanted to say what a bad choice it was in my opinion.
Ummmm it's not our fault you can't remember any games that came out before December Space Miner was a big deal when it came out, and we've posted about it at least 10 times since then. Sorry some people missed all of those. There was an extensive list of games we had in mind for GOTY. Infinity Blade and Real Racing are awesome, but they have a really limited appeal. Space Miner on the other hand has practically something for everybody. Not saying everybody will love it, but there's an awesome upgrading system that could appeal to RPG gamers, space shooting that appeals to arcade gamers, well written and humorous dialogue that appeals to story-driven adventure gamers, just so many great elements. It just has such a broad appeal, it controls really well, and feels completely meant for the platform that it's on. It's as close to a perfect iPhone game as they come, in our opinion. Tons of people are still playing Space Miner still, or have completed it multiple times, 11 months after its release. Let me know if you're still playing Infinity Blade in 11 months or not. Really classy move, btw, being that you're from another iPhone gaming site and you would come to TouchArcade's forums to post about how awful our pick is. Classy.
Well, I love Space Ore Bust, and I completed the game. But in SoB's 11 months, I've already spent more time with Infinity Blade. And unlike SoB, I actually hope to be playing Infinity Blade in 11 months via DLC, whereas with SoB, I was ready to put it down after the ending. Maybe it's just me. OTOH I understand the "mass appeal" point. edit/ ...also, Real Racing 2 is playable all the way down to the first iPhone... How's that for accessible? But, you can only choose one game. And no choice will please everyone.
Take that comment, replace Infinity Blade with Aralon, and you've captured my feelings exactly. It's a bit strange for me with Aralon because I'm playing one version ahead of most people; I think if the the current beta build had come out before Dec 31 there wouldn't be a question among reasonable folks that Aralon should at least be considered for GoTY. That said, I can think of few games (on any platform) that brought me as much joy as SoB. I think it richly deserves the recognition.
Well I have to say that I was surprised to see imns making this thread at first because if I recall, I thought he like loved space miner???
Who cares. You can't please everyone, especially when trends change so fast in the appstore. But it's slightly pathetic some people think Space Miner is an unknown game...especially someone from an ipod specific review site.
While I personally wouldn't have chosen Space Miner, I am pleased to see TA both gave credit to a small indie game and something that is forgotten by those short term memory loss folks. Check any random iPhone site with a GOTY of the year and odds are it will be something that was hyped up and will be picked regardless of whether it was actually decent. Nice to see TA go against the trend and pick something that has stuck with them for a long time.
