Considering all options are all the table and the anti-vista comment have you thought about a Mac Mini? It's at least twice the price of a comparable windows box but it's the cheapest entry into the world of Mac and a wonderful starting point for someone trying to leave Windows.
go with a macbook, definitely the way to go. Although they are a bit more expensive they are definitely worth it, and the mac OS is way better than microsoft

TBH, I think the drawing tablets are full of it. I've tried using them but they just seem useless to me. You want to draw? You want to go to art college? Buy yourself a nice notepad and some good pencils (NOT HB, 2b-6b only).
