I prefer the DS over the iPod right now for games. I didn't like the PSP when I had due to lack of games that interested me, however that has changed today, the PSP Go looks very appealing I might end up getting that and selling off my iPod.

However the main thing that's holding me back from buying the PSP Go is its music playing capabilities, how would it compare to the iPod Touch? I don't know...

As an overall multimedia player I really enjoy my iPod and while the games do not compare to the DS/PSP's IMO, that doesn't mean I don't have fun with them, I just don't get "sucked" into them like I would with a deep DS or PSP game you know?

Other things I hate sometimes about the iPod is the lack of buttons, but I guess you can't have it all. At least not yet.

Yeah, Metroid Prime: Hunters. Works better than any iPhone FPS I've encountered...

Yeah it's on DS. D-pad to move and strafe, stylus to look around/tap to shoot. Basically the same as Modern Combat but the stylus allows for faster and more precise aiming. It's pretty much the only good FPS on there though.

I'm sorry man, but you know that every single thing I said is true, even if you don't want to admit it. ;)

Sales of the DS are at an all time high. PSP not so much which leaves Sony scrambling to create the "next new must have." I guess they think that is the PSPgo. Would I get that when I already have an itouch? No. Would other people? Maybe. Do I think its better? Would have to see. But its going to be a preference thing again.

Bottom line - DS and PSP are entities different than the iDevices. The two are handheld gaming devices and the other is a mobile gaming device. The real debate will be is the iTouch better than a PSPgo.

I don't think that the iTouch is taking away sales from either the DS or PSP. Sony is having its own problems and their upgrades to the system shrunk the battery life among other things but Nintendo is growing in leaps and bounds.

iTouch is marketed towards a different niche and isn't out there SOLELY as a gaming device. Its an all in one device. Like when the Treo first hit the market and you could play GAMES on your phone! It was a novel concept. Phone companies latched onto that idea and released games for all their phones to try and copy. There is hardly a phone out there that you can't download games for. Screwed up controls - you bet! But Apple has taken that idea and totally upped the ante and blown that competition away. That is what should be compared - not the others that focus on games only.

And if there MUST be a comparison (as had been tried to do many times before) then I believe there is a market for all of them and everyone will have a favorite and trying to convince someone else that one is better or not just won't happen. Everyone likes what they like for whatever reasons. And amazingly enough some people like all three.

Metroid Prime Hunters was a great DS game, but to disagree with whoever said the controls work better than any iPhone/iPT shooter, I actually found the game Cube easier to control than MPH. I don't know. It's just easier for me.
Here's how I really feel about the three:

PSP: Great graphics, a few good titles, beautiful blue interface menu, not interactive, uninteresting, and that silly analogue stick that looks like a speaker/mic. It's pretty comfortable, but it does feel like I'm holding a Hot Pocket.

DS: Very interactive, not as good of graphics, not too many titles/games that would interest me, it's confusing switching between the stylus and the physical control buttons. The DS also feels uncomfortable when I hold it (the top sticks out far, and it doesn't really fit my hands because the bottom corners of the device gouge my lower palms).

iPhone/iPod Touch: The most interactive because of the touch screen and the accelerometer, has potential for best graphics of the three, tons and tons of titles that catch my interest, very comfortable and fits my hands like a glove. Although the menu interface for the iPod Touch is dark and depressing, and the worst of the three, everything else, I find better.

Nice breakdown of each device. I agree with everything you said. It all comes down to what you want out of your device. And it's personal, there is no right/wrong answer.

I'd say the iPod / iPhone still has no-way near the graphical power of the PSP - i mean, i wish it did, but it just isn't there.

At least it's better than the DS *throws my DS out of the window*...

Personally, I think that the DS is a device for little kids. Simply because of the style and genres of games out for it. Honestly, they're all really really childish, which has completely put me off buying a DS pretty much forever.

The DS definitely has a whole ton of kiddie games, but there are a number of great games for it too. It just takes a little more searching to find them. I own about 25 DS games and I'd say at least 21 of them are "proper" gamers games. I haven't played it in over a year though... so I have no idea what the game releases have been like since then.

I can give you three great reasons for my wanting a PSP Go...

    1. Final Fantasy VII... portable!
    2. Metal Gear Solid... portable!
    3. Resident Evil 2... portable!

That alone sells me, plus of course all of the other PSOne Classics available/soon to be available. Any games actually made FOR the PSP are a bonus.

Edit: Note: I'm not trying to argue either side in this case. I wouldn't give up my iPod Touch for a PSP Go, and I don't prefer one over the other, but think about it this way... people on this forum are always asking for "a game like FFVII", "a game like MGS", and that's exactly what the PSP provides. The two devices go hand in hand.

Actually, iPhone 3Gs definitely does have more graphical power than the PSP and so does the iPod Touch 2nd gen. The 2nd gen iPod Touch has 533 Mhz (vs. the PSP 3000's 333 Mhz), 128 MB of RAM (vs. the PSP 3000's 64 MB of RAM), and PowerVR MBX Lite GPU (but I can't find the PSP 3000's GPU, but it's probably a lot worse since it can't handle progressive rendering animation).

Sorry if I ranted any. I just get annoyed when people say the PSP is more powerful just because the games are more detailed. The PSP's hardware is rather crappy, IMO.

Personally, I'm finding my iphone way more fun overall then my DS or PSP. I know the app store isnt jam packed with hardcore titles.. but there are a few that are definitely worth playing. The quest will have well over 150hrs of hardcore rpg'ing once all the expansions are out and while I haven't dug into Zenonia yet, its said to be console quality.

Im having so much fun with the constant stream of innovative games coming out for this platform. Some of them are quite good too.

In the end, I dont have the time to stretch between several gaming devices and my iphone just makes sense, plus its always with me. It's actually changed my taste in games a bit as i'm actually really enjoying some of the casual/puzzle games that ive never given the time of day too before.

I'd say give it another year, and the quality and library of games will be rivaling that of the DS and PSP.... If only Square Enix would start porting the classic Final Fantasy's over id be a happy man... :)

I must add that I think the PSPgo will be a flop... It just seems half assed to me and way to expensive. No acceleromoter, 2nd analog stick, or touch screen? C'mon..

The thing I like about apple is that they have balls. They're not afraid to do something different. Of course they should have added a camera to the new ipod touch. That was just greedy!

I thought the new iPhone/Touch can handle better graphics than the PSP, and can handle more stuff to go on the screen. ?
