I wish Apple would give us the option of removing the pre-supplied apps that we don't use out of the way or just deleting them off of the devices altogether. I mean...I've read the age range of iPod touch users skews younger than iPhone users by a bit, with more teens owning iTouch devices. I can't help but think "what 15 year old kid is gonna use the stock tracking app?". I mean...honestly now. How many adults use that app? And do I really need a friggin' compass? I know NYC, where I live, is often referred to as an "urban jungle", but it isn't an actual friggin' jungle. For cryin' out loud...at no point in my day am I looking for Dr. Livingstone. I can do without the compass.
OK, 30 minutes later after install and after yet again unplugging and replugging the phone into the usb port to see if itunes would do something useful...my phone seemed to come back to life and said "iphone activated", but was still not recognized in itunes. Yet another unplug/replug and now itunes sees the phone and things seem okay. Now rebooting phone and will check it out.
I restarted my PC and now it's working. Maybe give that a try if you already haven't? EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize Skamando beat me to it...
Same here. Also, Push Notification is not working for me. It says: "Connect to iTunes to Use Push Notifications" I HAVE.
Right there with you I have it downloaded and the whole dealio, but cannot activate as servers are down. Just got it to happen though as I was ready to give up until later. Ahhh, "preparing the iPhone for update..." Such sweet sweet words from my pals at Apple.
Related, but when you close an app which is playing it's own sounds and music, instead of just cutting off the sound and closing the app the sound now fades until it's gone. Much nicer on the ears then suddenly turning off.
The guy in the demo video here promoting the new features specifically says: "Spotlight search will also display the names of matching apps and web-clips found on any of my home screens."
Another quick question.. When you go to settings>general>about.. what does it say for you guys next to version.. just 3.0?
Gah, iPod 1Gs get screwed over so bad from the update. Hardly anything useful, yet everything will be 3.0 in the future...
I was restoring my iPod 1st gen because it was jailbroken and I wanted to have that removed before I upgraded to 3.0, and once I hit the restore button something came up about 3.0 and it began downloading in the downloads tab of iTunes. I wasn't ready to pay $10 for the upgrade yet, but did it just charge me?
