So people who bought app for 99 cents are complaining about lack of updates, really?? Is this a new law that devs should release free updates forever? Amazing, really.
Pshh stop complainin. All you need to do is type a few lines of code. Christ, you devs stealing my hard earned money that I got from my mom.
If Paul the Octopus had only predicted that Apple will release an iPhone 4 and an iPad even before the 1st gen iPhone came out, we would have made hi-res art assets from the beginning and pushed the updates quickly. Artworks need to be redone for these hi-res devices and yes, they take time--a lot. Also, add to that the fact that the iPhone 4 isn't available in all countries yet, including mine. Geez.
I updated my game for Retina soon after launch which took a few 16 hour days at the computer but didn't get any love from Apple. I dunno if I'd jump on new technology again...
At least not with Apple, definitely. The iPad launch still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, although I'm sure the few games Apple made visible profited well.
Also, if you're wondering why we don't just use xCode and the Mac iPhone Simulator instead of waiting to get the actual hardware, the Simulator is pretty unreliable. If we released something with only using the simulator it would probably be full of bugs and possibly without sound, from our experience
I don't think that the OP was 'wondering' anything at all - that would suggest some sort of rudimentary understanding of the complexities of game development. (shakes head in utter bewilderment)
This I know from bitter experience... I implemented Jet Car Stunts for the Retina display, the code was tested on the simulator (we did give a build to someone who had an iPhone 4 but crossed wires happened) and gambled on the release. It backfired and the Retina screen failed to happen and we had to get some people with iPhone 4s to test our fix. Having real hardware is a must but trying to get hold of a device on release is very hard indeed if you don't live in the US.
Console quality, 100 hour long games with unlimited free updates for $0.99 ftw. Oh, I forgot to include the devs soul in that deal as well If there's one thing I learned from the rest of the team (me being the art guy), is that rarely -- if ever -- is anything "just a few lines of code."
Some cheese to go with that whine? Seriously, dude, if it bothers you that much, maybe you might want to seek some therapy. 'm sure there's an app for that.
I know. I paid for the games so they could endlessly update with new features & live in poverty. NOT so they can make a profit.
Haha nice one. But honestly I have 1 page full of folders and each one is full. I have had very little if any problem with them working on my iPhone 4. The only things are the multitasking (which I am not used to having) and utilizing the Retina display, which is fine with me but I do notice when downloading some apps, the icon seems much more hi res while it's downloading than from when it's installed. That's what bothers me cause there is a hi res icon available but they don't give it to us.
I don't have iPhone 4 yet (not available in Australia), but after all crap on the net about antenna etc., I'm not even sure I want one, other than as a testing device.
That problem is really over blown. The easiest fix is to put a small piece of clear tape on a certain area and it's fixed
I can understand users thinking that developers should have the iPhone supported in full as soon as it is released, but other than beta versions of the SDK, we didn't have any more information that consumers. We cannot test on the device until we buy one, along with everyone else. And rarely is it a case of put the game on there and it works. Even if higher-resolution graphics are ready, something will not look right on-screen. And something in the code will cause problems, usually several things many problems.
