I can't decide. I have hundreds of apps, many on my computer. However, I have lots of games with saved data on the ipod too. Inotia 2 *May* not be an issue as it has load from server option. However, I have Chaos Rings, Sword of Fargoal, Real Racing, Puzzlequest, that stuff. While Real Racing isn't too much of a pain, the other RPG games (Especially Chaos Rings) will be to do again. Broken Sword, Underworlds, Bridge Odyssey, Lost Empires, etc would be a nice thing to keep the saves on... And notes need preserving >.<" folders would only really help me if they increased the number of apps that can be stored on the ipod. Without, I don't need them. Multitasking would be nice but I heard it's not on the 3g? I can live without wallpapers on the ipod (When you scroll though, does the wallpaper stay still or move with your icons?) The shortened battery life (I barely last around 5 hours unplugged as I game on the ipod a lot) is a huge blow. I would be estimated around a two-hour runtime which is barely anything. Without multitasking though, would this be much of an issue? (I use wi-fi a lot, except outdoors) So yeah, do pros outweigh cons or does ios4 lack to give Ipod 3g the negative features? (Aka the battery-draining ones) And would losing saves outweigh folders etc? Just, is it worth it?
Doesn't the save data go along with the backup that occurs right before the firmware update? Can someone confirm this? Folders don't increase the amount of apps you can keep on the iDevice, per se. In all truthfulness, your entire library will fit onto the iPod; just not all of them show up right now. Folders allow you to keep all your apps on the iDevice while staying within the 11-page limit of displayed apps. Multitasking will work for your iPod Touch 3rd Gen; 3G refers to the iPhone 3G, which will not support some of the iOS4 upgrades, including multitasking. Wallpaper stays as you scroll. As for battery life, I have a suggestion: Turn off Wi-Fi whenever you don't use it. As in, keep active tabs on whether you need to be using Wi-Fi or not, and switch it on or off accordingly. Your device will constantly search for a hotspot if you don't turn it off, which saps power quite quickly. Also, turn down your screen brightness. You probably don't need it very high to see your game anyway, and it could reduce eye strain. Turn off push notifications as well. That's another power-sapper, as the device is always searching for these notifications. I say go ahead and update, as long as the save data is included in the backup. If it's not, you decide.
Power is almost all the way down and wi-fi is off when I don't need it. Still max 5 hrs. I think it's because most of the games I play are 3D like Real Racing. Yes, I need confirmation that save data goes with a backup. I ask this because I deleted a game off my ipod after synching it to Itunes and when I got it back, the save data was gone (It wasn't a very good game anyway so I don't worry too much about that one)
Yes, save data is kept. I just tested it on Phoenix Wright, Puzzle Quest (loaded but took unusually long), Chuzzle, Ninjatown, and Super Quick Hook. Everything is there.
Yeah, the only two ways you could lose game data is if you either delete the game from your iPod, or you did a complete restore (as in back to factory condition, I did that once).
Hmm, ok. So backup and install and synch onto ipod leaves data intact? If so, let us move on to battery: How much would it affect me? I play 3D games mostly with brightness low and wi fi off when possible...
I really don't know. People have posted everything from "shortens battery life" to "improves battery".
I have been surfing, youtubing, playing prince of Persia, surfing, mapping, noting copying & pasting between the two, streaming vids from sites, since 11:00am and I'm at 30% at 2:38pm central time With wifi on the whole time, brightness at 80% no blutooth or 3G on, no push of any kind on. I'd say it's a pretty good improvement on battery life Processing seems more speedy and efficiant as well. Running a 16gig 3G S
You said surfing twice And the issue is that it may improve the 16gb 3G Iphone but not the ipod. I need someone with exactly the same model as me, 32gb 3rd gen ipod.
I heard that lots of games don't work with the new update is this true? And do all the apps have to have a update.(Have some that are updated for ios4) I have a 2nd Gen. ipod touch.
That's cause I've been doing twice as much surfing I also downloaded some apps am at 25% & I haven't shut the phone off. I know your using a touch but maybe it'll give you or others an idea as far as usage/drainage goes
You won't have multitasking so it won't affect you. These updates are for multitasking allowances. Otherwise, you can just run them normally. Yes, thank you Gunsmith, lol.
A lot of games I play (big titles) don't work thy just exit, sit in the que & relaunch...or course there is always checkpoints to rely on if I needed to answer a text I guess. But I've seen a couple updates today for pandora and something else I forgot right now, so who knows. Let's hope the devs update but seeings how most games don't even have screen orrientation options yet I'm not holding my breath.
