Hey guys... from another Neon Surge developer

Hey guys, Andrew here, anther one of the Neon Surge guys. I thought I would _try_ to help clear up how it works by maybe giving you another example of how the game does the stock quotes.

So you'll see delayed data pulled up when you look around researching stocks, but when you actually trade a stock when the "buy" executes it uses real time data from multiple sources.

This is actually how many of the websites that do stock trading started out. Scottrade (I trade with them) up to about 1 year ago only displayed data from 5-10 minutes ago on their website. It was rather frustrating because I could just go to google and get better realtime stock data. When you actually executed a trade, it went and got the live quote for trading against, so they have a quoted "buy" amount based on delayed data, until their backend went and retrieved an actual live quote and executed a live trade. They have relaxed (sorta) the restrictions on retrieving and displaying live quotes anywhere in the last year and so more and more is becoming possible (and legal).

So, we emulate this functionality for one reason... there are high costs associated with getting real time data. Because our game is free, we just can't get you real-time data on all the stocks. It simply costs too much. We can afford to do it upon actually trading the stock, which emulates the "Scottrade" example above. If/when it is feasible to get you real time data in iTrade, we will make it available. :) The great part about our current design of our application is everything is server-side, so the second this is possible, you don't even need to update your application, we just tweak the server-side and you suddenly get live quotes!

Anyway, sorry for the long(er) post, I'll follow it up by saying we just uploaded a YouTube video tutorial/overview of iTrade. So, if you're still reading this, you are likely interested in the game, and should check this video out!

And yes, that is my voice in the video. :p

    Cheers!

Alright gang just a few hours are left until the release of iTrade, by this time tomorrow we should have some new iTrading pals to compete on the score boards.

We have started a new thread dedicated to the release here:
    http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=10779

I want to give special thanks to all of you who contributed, beta tested and expressed interest. You all have a very important role in making this happen. Thank you.

In about a week if all goes smooth, I will contact the current beta testers to offer them an upgrade to the new version with Investment Clubs. We are very excited about this new feature that will allow you to trade and rank against your immediate friends and social circles.

One last thing - tonight I will be closing the trading month!
I have tried to explain what that means a few times but I am sure a few of the players will still be surprised and hopefully not that upset.
All of Your stock has been sold at the current closing price including the standard transaction fee.
Your portfolio will be reset to its initial value.
Top players for the closing month will be announced in an email sent to all players.
Next month we start clean (I plan on implementing the first 5 transactions in a month to be submitted without a fee but it will all depend on how the release goes)

All of your effort for the month are not lost, the server keeps track of your overall gain/loss which is displayed in the Overall score board - there be the true stock gurus!

See you all on the screens on iTrade
    Sincerely
    jordan [at] neonsurge
