Apparently, I'm syncing my iTouch 32 Gb. I haven't synced it up for about a month or so. Now, the reason why I'm only syncing my iTouch is because I want a backup of my current app statuses(I'm upgrading to 4.2 too since JB is now available). Problem is, I don't want to save my apps on my computer because my computer has 8 gb left and the apps take 20 gb. To make it short, is it ok to cancel the whole syncing?(Step 3 out of 4 is my current status which is copying the apps and Step 2 is backing up) Plus the "Other" bar on the capacity annoys me. I have 2.8 GB (it was around 5.4 GB first)
Nah. My computer is hella wierd, I don't have any huge software but I don't know, my disk space keeps going down Also, I have a picture folder that I really want to delete but I can't because I synced it using iTunes. Now, the only that I know to delete it is to resync a new folder again. But then if I try to sync the Picture folder, iTunes prompt me that I continue, 55 of the apps will be removed and get their data losts.
Just upload 10 random 2GB files to fileape.com, delete them, sync and then redownload them. And if you don't have any huge software installed but little disk space, you should do an investigation. It's better to fix the problem now that encounter it again in a few months when it's more serious. In addition, if you're on a Mac, you can use This software to reduce your photo library. How many photos do you have?
So, you're implying that just go and put the apps in the iTunes, and get the root apps located in the Applications folder? mmm, That might work. All I care is my data apps. most of them are finished(talking about games), and I have some artworks(Sketchup) I have no clue why my disk falls apart. iTouch backups cost 4 gb so I tried deleting the previous one. I have now 9.50 GB. What the heck! it keeps falling! now it's 9.46! I'm not surprise, always happens. I tried going to the dealer but then they said they can't touch it because I lost my warranty. I can't argue because I'm in Japan and me no speak Japanese. Damn, it was a two year warranty and I bought this less than two years. I have no idea why this is happening. Tried some antivirus, didn't detect anything. Disk fragmented it, nothing happened(aside that it made my computer a little faster). I'm using a Laptop. NEC Lavie=Intel Core Duo=Windows Vista=RAM 2 GB. I only had 2 GB worth of Photos. Deleted them all when I turned it to the Dealer(to be accurate, it's Bic Camera) and saved them on my Flaskdrive. I don't have any Photos so far. Aside from the Desktop.
What? How bout this- just zip random apps or files on your hard drive till you have 20GB free and delete the originals. If you need anything, just unzip it and zip it when you're done. Should work. And if you're jailbroken, install AppBackUp, backup all your saves to your hard drive, sync, and then reinstall them.
Ya, I dont understand myself too. Whatever. Oh, I dont have any random files. Most of them are software parts. I don't have any songs. Also, when decompressing files, they have the same amount, just stuffed up in a rar file isn't? Yah, I have appbackup. No idea how to use it. Can you explicate it to me? Thanks for your hasty reply btw.
You're jailbroken?! OK, now I know exactly what to do. Open Appbackup on your device. Tap on the button that says "all" and select the option "backup". Keep your device on the whole time or the program will crash. Now, all of your game saves for every app are backed up. You can sync with iTunes and replace your apps, delete them from your device, but your game saves are still saved. Just open Appbackup again and tap all, then tap restore. If you want to keep your game saves on your computer, download iPhone explorer or an SSH program, navigate to /var/library/preferences/Appbackup/tarballs and there are your game saves.
Ya, I am, if you're asking. Thanks. So um, how if I upgrade my device to 4.2? You know, updating removes jailbreak so yeah, will it be still restorable? I checked the app and its memory usage is 49 mb. I think that's almost 1/7 of my RAM(iTouch 4g). So yeah, after I do the whole restoring thing, can I earn back those RAM back if I remove Appbackup?
Hey man, thanks for your concern. I used it couple of months ago but it doesn't seem to work anymore so I wiped it off my computer. I might give it a try again since you reminded me of it.
I got a fresh backup question. Can you use a backup from an iphone (first gen) and restore it onto new ipod touch (say a 4g). Also, I have a lot of progress on infinity blade on a friend's iphone 4. Could I first restore a back u from that iphone onto my hypothetical ipod touch, and then restore the backup from my original iphone (with Infinity Blade in my itunes library) and will the progress be saved to the ipod. Hope that was clear enough.
1. Yes 2. Yes. 3. Appbackup does not run in the background. It is one of the only jailbreak apps not to do so. It should only use RAM when running. Sorry, I know nothing about it. I'll look into it. Yes and no. You could put your first gen backup on your iPhone- But you can't get your Infinity Blade progress over easily. Your iPod touch backup would completly overwrite your friend's iPhone backup. But there is hope! If you have a mac, you could use the iPhone backup extractor to grab your friend's Infinity Blade progress, restore to the first gen backup, then add the IB save game file later. I'll give more detailed instructions if you have a Mac.
Oh. yes I have a mac, but I have not, and most likely will not jailbreak. If it is still possible, I would love to know more. Basically here is the deal, I have a crappy almost dead first gen iphone that I use as a touch now (no service). I would like my new ipod when I get it (eventually this summer) to be exactly like it (as in all app/game progress and contacts and stuff which I understand restoring a backup should do right?). But I also want my hours of Iblade progress on it too, which is on the unrelated iphone not under my ownership. No big deal if that is not possible, I just will have to log in the hours again on Iblade . Edit: And ruining progress any of friend's game is not an issue, but losing other information is (email, contacts, etc.
You'll need access to your friend's computer and his iPhone. 1. Backup his iPhone using iTunes. Make sure the "encrypt iTunes backups" checkbox is unchecked. 2. Find his .ipsw file by searching his computer for a .ipsw file or looking for guides on Google. 3. Email the file to yourself or upload it to a file hosting site and send yourself the link. 4. On your own mac, download iPhone backup extractor from here. 5. Put your friend's .ipsw file in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. Load iPhone Backup Extractor, load your friend's .ipsw, and click on Infinity Blade. 6. Click on extract. Extract to the desktop. 7. Sync your iPod touch 1G with iTunes. Back it up, then plugin your new device and restore to the backup you just created. 8. Sync Infinity Blade to your device. 9. Download iPhone Explorer from here. 10. Open iPhone explorer and drag the "documents" folder from the com.Chair.InfinityBlade folder on your desktop into iPhone explorer and overwrite the documents folder in Applications/InfinityBlade/documents. 11. Sync.
Thank you. That sounds easy enough actually. thought it would be harder what with all apples restrictions.
Okay, quick question. The new ipod was hypothetical as of now, but I still wanted to test this so I could have the software ready and know the process. Well I tried it by deleting chop chop caveman off my device after extracting its latest backup (where I have beaten all the levels). When I tried to replace it on the one on the iphone, it did not work. It asked me if I did want to overwrite the documents folder, but my progress was still erased. But in the com.gamerizon.chopchopcaveman folder, the documents folder in it only had one file.: feint_offline. So did I do something wrong, or does this only work with some games? Thanks to K?! and/or whoever else replies.
Was your device already jailbroken? You might not have been able to see/access the files if it wasn't. edit: this might be useful, but i am pretty sure it's for JB devices only: http://www.ifans.com/blog/19301/
