Excellent news! I knew this was being released next month but didn't expect it's launch until mid-Sept. An unexpected but pleasant surprise. BTW-I actually like the name "Jetpack Joyride" a lot more.
Woohoo!!! Just 1 more week!!!! btw, I also liked Machinegun Jetpack more, but Jetpack Joyride isn't a bad name either.
+1 for machine-gun jetpack sounded much better. Game is going to be sweet either way though. Can't wait.
Hahahaha, SURPRISE! We are ultra excited here about finally getting this baby out into everyone's hands. The guys have really worked their fingers to the bones over the last 9 months to make this thing, but having people finally playing it will make it all worthwhile
Yeah, I'd say that Machine Gun Jet Pack was a slightly more whimsical and evocative name actually, like something you'd see as the name of a serial in a 2000 AD comic. Jetpack Joyride, on the other hand, sounds a bit limp and doesn't quite seem like it suits the game or the team behind it. Of course, the important parts all boil down to the gameplay anyway, so we'll see how it turns out.
I wonder how their decision to implement an image filter will turn out. If it introduces excessive blurriness it could turn off part of the audience. I'm personally optimistic, but I'm the kind of guy who voluntarily plays emulated console games with such filters. A lot of retro gamers are fanatical about chunky, unprocessed pixels.
Great question / comment. For sure there are some people who are fanatical about the old school chunky style, but at the same time we didn't feel we were quite lo-fi enough for this to be the best option for us. This is basically what it does, applied to the laser object and then zoomed up double size again (with nn) so you can clearly see the process. Nearest Neighbour (aka no filter) (Monster Dash does this, and we got plenty of complaints!): Bilinear Scale (the other default option... this is why non-retina games look blurry on retina devices): What we are doing: Its hard to make a full assessment based off a single image, I know, but in action we feel like its a massive improvement! Its still kinda chunky and low colour, but just smoother and super sharp on those bigger resolution screens.
Sorry Frost, on September 1st, the game will be mine twice over (on two devices). It will be a jetpack joyride...
WTF! Lmfao! If you were developing a game for 9 months would you consider making it free? At 99 cents this game is a bargain!!!
Why the hell would they neuter the name of the game? Sounds like they're taking bad PR advice from a bunch of slow people.
Ikr. It's halfbrick, they always make amazingly awesomely excellent games!! I'd pay 5$ for Fruit Ninja despite it's casualty, it's still very polished!
As they said in the promo video, they want to de-emphasize the machine gun, since they have now introduced so many other weapons.
