to me it's pretty terrible and boring based on the gameplay. would rather save my buck for something better or if they brought back a c=64 Karateka retro style
Why is Ninjackids buck worth more than mine? I posted it first!!! Ahh heck with it, so much negative feedback, but I am curious to see how it plays on my hdmi tv cause it seems perfect for it, good graphics, one touch controls, and a cool theme. Guess it'll be worth my buck there. Going to buy...
Post some feedback on it. Isn't the iPad 3 technically worse than the iPad 2 due to driving the retina screen? It'll be interesting to see how it runs for you.
Okay, just played it for a couple of minutes on my new ipad, and wow, can see why this game has so many different impressions. Good or bad. About the ipad2/3 issue, I kind of hear arguements both ways, some say since the ipad 3 has to drive the retina screen, some games may well indeed play better on the ipad 2, but the ipad 3 has a much stronger gpu, so some games will play better on the ipad 3. Also, most games are better optimized by developers nowadays for the ipad 3, so I *think* a lot of higher end games will play better on it cause the updates nowadays are for optimizations for ipad 3/4, but of course the ipad mini might change this, but I haven't noticed many games being optimized for the mini though. Anyway, its kind of apples and oranges, cause it does not take retina into consideration, and if a developer wanted to write a game just in ipad 2 graphics format, then the ipad 3 would win easy cause of the much better gpu. I really have no idea exactly, cause I have done a lot of ipad 3/4 comparisons, but not much with ipad 2/3. But many people say the new ipad (3) is underpowered and the ipad 2 on paper might be more powerful if you are factoring retina loading, but every game that I have runs well on my new ipad. The only exception is Nova 3. Everything else that I had problems with before like Virtua tennis, wild blood, asphalts, got better with ipad 3 improvements or ios 6.0.1. But anyway, don't know how Karateka works on the the ipad 2, but on the new ipad (3), it works really well. No framerate issues at all. The graphics though do not look retina, they have this weird jaggy lines on it. I kind of wonder if the ipad 4 is full retina ipad, maybe someone could let us know who has an ipad 4. But it works on my new ipad without problems, then it should on the ipad 2 or mini I figure. Read reviews that it runs sucky on an iphone 4, so maybe an a5 is kinda required. Now, getting to your main question, why is this game so debated on? Well, the size for one cause the graphics are not that great with these weird jaggies, the game seems to be very very short by reading reviews, and the action is very simple, tap to hit, tap to block, etc. Ok, now that I have addressed the bad points, the good points are great theme, story and cutscenes. I love the martial arts fighting theme! The graphics have an excellent 3d effect not found in a lot of games. The fighting though simple, is fun and action packed. I like how it is original, and not just a straight port of an old game. I think you had appletv, but this game looks very well suited for hdmi tv. That's the main reason why I bought it cause it is a perfect game for tv, great 3d rendering, simple controls, and kind of a short game (yeah, I kind of prefer games I can finish quickly nowadays cause I'm out of disk space). So I am really looking forward to playing on my tv cause this game seems perfect for it. So for me it is worth it, many times over just for the tv part. As for you, the main thing is disk size. If you don't mind kind of a short game, and since you don't have a retina ipad, the non retina is not a factor, should play well on your ipad, and the theme is great. I would say, yeah, get it definitely. It is much funner to me than Batman Arkanoid, Crow, avengers, etc, huge games that are ok, but this game seems funner to me. Plus I like the fact that it is kind of a short game, so I can play it for awhile and then delete it later for something else, and keep reloading it later cause it is fun. So yeah, little back and forth on this one, and I bet you when I get home to play on my bigscreen, I will be ranting and raving a out this one, but I think you should get it, for a buck, it is worth it even with the disk space and shortness of game and simplicity. Highly recommended!
I got it last night, simple but fun game. For a buck, there is no reason not to get this game. Moreover, no IAP. It's a deal breaker for me nowadays with iOS apps
My iPad is still choke full of the Christmas deals I snagged... The only iDevice with enough space for the onsale Karateka was, unfortunately, only my iPhone 4. One day, when I have enough space, I will install it on my iPad, and Baulder's Gate too. Why do these games have to be so huge?
Bad programming... Probably due to middleware. Edit: Well... Locked in a license on this. I'll try it on my 4s later. Watching BCS National Championship.
This game is awesome. Love the beautiful visuals. Easy to play yet can be challenging. The challenging part is to finish with the first character who is the girls true love. Three characters, three possible ending depending on which character you finish with. Excellent audio work, bg and Sfx are not generic. It's fun. Absolutely worth a dollar.
Was it called Batman Arthritis? Dang, I'm not good with names. I remember you corrected me when I was talking about the darkknight returns, or was that begins??? Haha
Batman: Arkham City Lockdown, I believe. Yeah I remember that too! Lol it was with The Dark Knight Rises, you had said Returns. So, back to Karateka, after watching Sanuku's gameplay video, my interest is definitely piqued. I just don't know how often I would play it and if it's worth the space...
The iPad Mini is the iPad 2, exactly the same hardware and resolution in a smaller device (except better camera and LTE in the Mini) so they won't 'optimize' things for a device that already exists since 2011.
That is what I thought too, but there had been so many app updates for the iPad Mini which makes me wonder what exactly the developers are updating if their apps already run on the iPad 2.
Must be for the weight or size. Just kidding! Haha But, you've seen some app updates that say for ipad mini optimizations? I haven't noticed much. Saw a handful for ipad 4 apps, but can't recall any for the ipad mini. If you remember any, please jot them down here cause you got me curious.
