@iFonePhanatic Why not? The image doesn't link to anything. gekkota, I got the same email, must just be an automated reply. But did no one notice this: Now have a look at that site(Don't worry, virus free). It's a list of 10 PDFs, 5 of them are Full eBook versions of rather expensive books. All of them are available for download, in fact, he encourages you to do so. So he's gone from bombarding the AppStore with useless Apps, to Copyright infringment, right the way up to illegal distribution of copyrighted material. LBG, I totally 100% agree with what should be done to this guy, but I can't help but think that somewhere in all of it, there should be a vat of hot oil....
Yeah, I did notice that the PDFs he was encouraging people to download are full-length ebooks which are certainly copyrighted by others. I am not surprised, of course, but I am disgusted. It's so unfair to honest developers who work hard to create apps that this lazy, sleazy person can just take other people's ideas and photos and logos and use them, and nothing will ever be done about it. There should be some mechanism by which developers like this can be banned from the app store...
Actually I've gotten an App pulled from the store before, I'll try and do it with this developer. If anyone remembers the game(it was much talked about here) "Luigi Vs Pac", I simply contacted nintendo about the copyright infringments, and the app is now gone. I've also contacted O'Reilly about their books being distributed, so expect to see that get pulled soon enough.
I'm impressed! I don't know who has the rights to these games, but I am sure they would not be pleased about these rip-off apps. If you read the reviews, the people who spend $4.99--thinking they are getting a legitimate app-- are really upset. [app]iDoom[/app] [app]iCounterstrike[/app] [app]iDukeNukem[/app]
Your proposed "hot oil" enforcement suggestion is a tad overboard, don't you think? The International Intellectual Property Alliance makes the following recommendations: Although it is also important to note that the IIPA is a private sector coalition and the only meaningful piece of information on their Wikipedia page is this: It is true that India amended it's Copyright Act in 1994 to include the terms of the Berne Convention. The Berne Convention is retroactive by nature and that presents a problem: how do producers go about enforcing protection without causing a cascading effect for all nations? It was, after all, not only Indian producers borrowing foreign intellectual property in the absence of international treaties. It is not only Indian industry exploiting loopholes in international trade treaties, still to this day. Ethics are externalities of economics and this is really an economically based dispute so one should not take it personally.
And who are you to say what "one" should or shouldn't take personally? To categorize this as purely an economic dispute when there are clearly ethical considerations trivializes the entire issue. It's not all about money...
Yes it is. Funny how putting it in a real context would trivialize the entire issue, wouldn't you say?
A Tad overboard? In my view, no. Not at all. Okay, Real world context: Man steals item. In UK, man gets arrested, and faces penalties. USA, man gets arrested, possible jail time. Hong Kong, man gets arrested, criminal record, jail time. Middle East, man gets arrested for theivery, right hand gets cut off. Online, man doesn't even get bothered, makes money off people, uses other peoples items without prior consent for his own gain. Nothing happens to man except buying a new car. Trivial 'eh?
Yes, it is trivial. I just said that. And the rest of your post is totally irrelevant. It only reveals that you have no understanding of international trade, but you have watched Aladdin.
Am I the only one amazed that these apps are actually approved by Apple? I was just looking over the Icounterstrike app and I think it is mind boggling that the QA person in charge of reviewing that would not at the very least raise a flag for his lead to have a closer look at!
Sorry to bring this up again... but... I... can't help it. This dude and his "employees" need jail time! He just flooded the appstore again with a slew of celeb photos (5 per app) and even dumb enough to place the 5 photos in the preview It's funny, use anything by Apple in your app, it gets rejected... use others intellectual properties it's A, O, K in Apple's book. Twisted Over 1000 apps is simply mindboggling.
It is neither funny nor twisted. It is not Apple's business to know the details of licensing agreements between other companies and individuals. Apple does have the right to defend it's own IPs. So that all makes sense. What don't you understand?
If you dont like it dont buy....You cant knock a guy for tryin to make some money. If people choose to buy his apps more power to em. The fact this forums knows him by name (i wouldnt have ever seen any of his apps if i never visted here) must mean hes doin something right or wrong enough to get paid. I dont understand why you people think hes hurting the app store lol
I've looked at his appstore pages and saw not a single review in the 30+ ones I checked. That's just in the US, but I'd say he's not selling jack squat.
