All MS games they ported are more-less same as from arcades considering slowdowns which brings me to conclusion that apart from touch controls and some custom filters they didn't bother much with porting or optimizing game code.It doesn't matter if 3 or 1 or X were first released for iOS, and I don't blame SNK playmore , they probably did what they could with game code, from what I have read, it was just coded poorly for first games what results in slowdowns for all ports no matter on what hardware you play it.
Edit: I didn't pay that much attention to MSX menu, it did look more sharp but I didn't contribute that to retina

Curses! 8( It's not so much the visuals, but my fingers going slightly off to the side that screws my controls up... Know if SNK might update it? Because even MS 1 has widescreen...

Of the two I picked up, I prefer MS3 over MSX, but I think I have a save glitch. I beat level four, and got a ways into level five before dying, I went to the missions page, but five is locked, so I have to play level four all over again. Is this intention, or is it a glitch? Thanks.

You might have to beat it to unlock it. I'm not really sure. Try finishing the game and then checking if its still locked.

    Ok, thanks!

Edit: whoops, WAY of on what level I was on, I was thinking of MSX. I have mission THREE locked, so I have to beat two and three.

I was only going to buy X but ended up grabbing 1 and 3 for nostalgia as well, still all solid shooters.

  8. How does 1 compare to 3 and x? Do you think I should get it if I got 3 and x? Was gonna ask how 1 plays in icade, cause I found x had better joystick support, but I don't think you have an icade.

    Nope no iCade :(

There's less in 1 but I like it for nostalgia reasons, it's not quite as insane but still pretty full on. There's an extra button for what seems to just be a short jump, graphically it's much of a muchness although sound does seem a bit lower quality.

Oh, and may be just me but diagonals seem harder on virtual joystick with the original.

Thought I'd put some of my impressions on MS 3.
    1. No widescreen support. If you have an iphone 5, don't bother. The controls become borderline frustrating.
    2. The settings do not save. If you configure your controls to your catering, it won't be the same next time. You have to fiddle with it each time you want to play. No quick plays I guess.
    3. Only 5 credits per go. MSX has 20 credits, making the game very beatable. With 5 credits, you can barely even get to the third mission, considering the increased difficulty.

Really disappointed with 3 right now. It's a better game, but its not adjusted at all unlike MSX, which makes it seem like a poor port.

  11. Well, that's what I have been saying all this time. X plays pretty much exactly like an arcade game, 3 plays like a computer emulator version.

I far prefer playing X over 3, especially on hdmi tv with my icade core. 3 still is pretty good, but X feels great with better framerates, less stuttering, better sound and music, faster gameplay, and more polish.

This makes me curious what 1 is like.... Dang, I might as well get it for icade core joystick support. What the heck.

Screenshot of X on hdmi tv with my icade core. Plays great!

Oh yeah, sorry. Grabbed X and 3 a long time ago, before this thread populated. Just started playing 3.(also beat X, and had a blast)

Did 3 come out first or something? It's so sad to see such a great game go to waste like this.

  13. On ios, I think Metal Slug 3 came first, and X is the latest, so the porting probably has gotten better with time.

  14. Bought 1, so now I got X, 3, 1. No 2. Doubt I will buy 2 cause everyone says X is a better make of it.

X is the best port. Smoothest and funnest for me. Graphics better, framerates seem better, sound better, faster paced.

Next, between 3 and 1, tough choice. Think in the arcades 3 is far better, but it is the worst port, seems the most like a computer port.

1 seems a little closer to X in terms of port quality, but since it is an old game, is slower in pace, doesn't have as many powerups and features, and is a slower paced game.

3 is more similar to me to X. So if you want a face paced game, 3 maybe better, but it is worse of a port, seems choppier than X or 1.

But if it was me, I would probably pick 1 over 3, if I could only have two games. 1 plays totally different, like a totally different game with slower gameplay and less going on at once. A different feel, and the port quality is better, much better than 3 considering this game is older.

But I recommend getting all three 3,1,X cause they are all good. Especially on hdmi tv with an icade core. Really awesome, better than being in the arcades cause you can blast your music and rest the icade core on you lap, all on a 50" tv screen or bigger.

Screenshot of 1 attached, new ipad with hdmi tv and an icade core joystick.

Agreed, I really want to buy Blazing Star but I will not buy a broken game (or not widescreen compatible). Not sure why they leave a game on the app store that is incompatible with the current iOS.
