Ok, so I have just turned onto my computer. Everything loads normally, but as I log on, instead of the normal windows chime, a loud "ROAR" (like a lion's roar) is played. It scared the crap outta me. Then once I'm logged on, I find that my account is blank and all of my stuff is now on my external hard drive. I try and search for something on safari and it brings up a new window with completely unrelated stuff. I open up iTunes and then it downloads a load of crap, some weird music and shit. I don't know where the hell it came from. It looks like someone else's library. WTF is wrong with my computer? I know it isn't someone I know playing a prank because I have a password that nobody knows. Could this be some sort of trojan/hijack software? I have been away for a couple days, so I don't see how it could change. I ran Norton anti-virus and Malwarebytes. Both results showed negative for any malicious software. I'm really confused, does anyone have any idea what could be screwing up my computer like this?
I saw this thing on YouTube one time where this guy got pranked and when he turned on his computer, a really loud lion's roar went off. I don't know about the rest, but I'm pretty sure there's someone laughing really hard right now.
If all your stuff has been moved to your external hard-drive, then that's an awfully nice hacker and probably someone you know did it by accessing the computer directly.
you can change the noises your windows make when starting up, loggin off, etc, i think it was a prank but i don't no anything bout the external data stuff
The only possibility I see is someone is remotely accessing their own computer on yours, and what you think is yours, isn't. Far-fetched, but it's a guess.
Make sure you ask around the people you know who might have done it first, if they were kind enough to back everything up onto your external hard drive, then they might have an easy way to restore it
I've heard of people that have had their computer infected with an undetectable hijack/trojan file. And I think once it's infected it's pretty easy for a hack to take control. I could kill the douche that did this to me.
Yeah, but it still doesn't make sense how they got past my password. Plus I don't know anyone that clever (or at least I don't think I do). Thanks for the help anyway guys
Ok, I really need some sleep now (3 am here in the UK). I just hope all my stuff is still there in the morning Thanks and goodnight
Eh, passwords aren't foolproof. My brother managed to get into my PC whilst I was away at Uni, some kind of guest account was created using some magic software. I didn't really investigate too much because he just did it to LAN with a computerless friend, so I didn't care too much. That was XP as well, not sure if Vista could be exploited in any similar way. But there's always brute force programs to spam passwords, and probably dozens of other ways I have no clue about Anyhow, good luck getting everything restored
OK, I confess. I did it. I pulled your IP and used my super-hacking skillz to get past your password. I moved everything over to your external hard drive as a gift, and put the lion sound on there because it was funny. Then I bought all this random crap on your iTunes account (you really shouldn't check remember the password), and gave you a defective version of Norton. I'm quite sorry, it was just a joke. If you believe this, you're an idiot.
