I find it surprising that they canceled it, considering that they had a game that seemed so close to release. :(

I've heard some people try to disparage the notion of a true console game on a handheld, like nobody would want that and that everyone should want games that are portable-able friendly, ie indie/casual/pick-up-and-play games; short spurt games that you'll supposedly play for five minutes here and there and then just shut off.

Well, I've owned every handheld gaming device known to man and that has never been my vision of what a handheld game should be. You're damn right I want an exactly replica of a console game on a handheld device. That is exactly what I want. I bought at $1350 gaming laptop because its as close as I can get.

My iPod is full of Gameloft and EA games, with a few Capcom and Namco games, and Aralon and Real Racing 2. That's all you need to know. Give me an immersive gaming experience or don't waste my time.

A lot of people believe that a tablet can replace a laptop like a laptop replaced a PC. Only if it offers the same functionality with no core comprises will that happen. Same deal with handhelds. If handhelds could offer the same functionality as consoles with no core comprises, it could render consoles obsolete. But we must see actual console games on handheld devices first before that could ever happen.

    How is it laughable?

I know a lot of games for 3DS have been delayed, however, this hasn't affected me as I bought my 3DS last month. So far I'm enjoying Zelda, Mercenaries, PilotWings and Star Fox....

I have Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Kid Icarus Preordered and paid off.

I'm not arguing the merits of 3DS/iOS.

I'm a core gamer, through and through. The casual fare interested me a bit last year on iOS, as the gen 1 iPad and it's titles were new to me. As time progressed, titles like Modern Combat 2, Aralon and Infinity Blade (to name a few) raised my expectations and awareness of the types of core titles possible on iOS.

I have my 360 (getting Skyrim and Arkham City as Xmas gifts from my partner) as those are my top 2 titles I'm awaiting on console.

I purchased a 3DS to enjoy Resident Evil (I'll follow that series anywhere) and for the select Nintendo titles I've been missing out on, available only on their platforms.

I have an iPad 2 for the touchscreen, innovative core type of games. As well as the select gems like Ant Raid.

This combination is why i chose to forgo the Vita: I have the console quality in an actual console (360). I have the touchscreen controls on an iPad 2, next year a 3. I can enjoy the portability of Nintendo's key franchises, it'd pick up steam like the original DS did.

I finally picked a portable (3DS) because I figured "why settle for generic Mario platform mobile titles on iOS? When I can have a a genuine Mario platform title, in 3d"...

I'm hoping the core iOS games using top notch assets and tech start to arrive, as there is no sense in arguing the graphics and gaming possibilities using the best tech of an iOS device if 3-4 titles a year use it....and the rest are kinda. Meh.

I'm waiting for March of Heroes and co. To really shine, as iOS is an equally great platform, in a differing way of immersion when the platform fires on all cylinders.

Update: well they cancelled it. Might not buy MC3 now. I'm sick of Gameloft and their shoddy use of their own tech. UE3 could have brought better lighting and more dynamic effects (afterlife by Trendy anyone?) -

They probably are too inefficient and incompetent to code right, and couldn't get the engine to work on iPhone for iPod touch 4 and below. I'm sure they figured it would be worthless to release the game on iPad 2 alone.

Maybe they are moving the game to Vita?

I don't know but I'm pissed. Wasted potential, Gameloft.

So it looks like I was right after all...Gameloft is shelving this in favor of Modern Combat 3 (and presumably Rio Retaliation and the inevitable NOVA 3 and Dungeon Hunter 3).

Who knows...I could still see them pulling out March of Heroes (or something built from its assets) to pad the first half of 2012.

I really wanted this game because it wasn't set in ww2 or modern days. It was going to be the only game released that played in vietnam/cold war era. I was very hyped for this game. Bad move by gameloft.

Yea, I had a feeling there was something going wrong with MOH but that's o.k because I think deep down we all new that Mc3 was going to blow it out of the water.

Mc2 is the game I play all the time, I have a feeling once Mc3 comes out, it will be the game I play religiously.

They are cancelling this so that they can concentrate on spitting out even more sequels (a 3rd generation of them) to franchises that they essential stole in the first place. Innovation, thy name is not Gameloft.

I agree with the above post that points out the fact that this was supposed to be a WWII game and there are some significant fundimental differences from WWII-type games and modern warfare-type games.

I never liked modern warefare-type games. I was always a fan of WWII games more then modern games. And now we've reached the point of over-saturation in which modern warfare-type games are officially played out. I think we jumped this shark with Homefront, to be honest. It's all down hill from here. Battlefield is the only modern fighting game that I remotely enjoy, but it's really because of the MP innovations of DICE and not the genre itself, which I begrudingly tolerate at best.

I hate Modern Warfare, by Infinity Ward. Words cannot even describe how badly I hate it, so I won't even try.

Bottom line, deep down MC3 can blow me. Don't put everyone into the same category of people are drooling over that game, because, frankly, I'm not.

I think that the game was not looking as good as they wanted it to be, and with modern combat 3 coming out soon it would clash, so I can sort of understand why they are stopping this game.

I expect this game to return at some point with new visuals, for next years model iphone or ipad maybe.

The game was set in the Cold War era, not WWII.
    Doesn't matter now, just sayin'.
