    Perv, why do you care?
I stomped it a couple times, but I want to do some serious damage. My friend ran over his nes.

If any of those who complain about game difficulty sat down with Battletoads, they would quit crying, and start crying :p

I am 23 and know all to well the difficulty of original era games (I grew up on them, and the SNES - hell even the N64 was controller pounding difficult at time). I think this is partly the reason I gravitated to PC games during the mid 90s. I still remember getting my first PC games (Doom & System Shock) - I remember going back to the super nintendo playing for about an hour and ditching it immediately to get lost on Citadel Station. Fond memories.

People just don't have the time anymore to go back and play a game over, I'm not even sure if it's difficulty, I think it's attention spans that have changed :)

I remember leaving my NES on while going to an appointment b/c I didn't want to lose my save back in the day! :)

However the most sadistically difficult game has got to be "Super Ghosts and Goblins" for the SNES.... try it and find out :)

SMB 3 definitely has save points. Every mid-castle and boss castle. Playing through that game on 5 lives with no saves wouldn't be humanly possible. It still struck a good balance though, the levels were hard enough and the save points were far enough apart.

I agree though. Many modern games are too easy, and have way too generous checkpoints. It takes the challenge out of a game, and for me, the enjoyment.

I remember rushing home from school to play the last ninja on my commodore 64. Rushing in the hope that I would have enough time to complete it in one sitting. In addition to having no save, and being brutally unforgiving in places, you also just had to cross your fingers every time a new stage loaded from the tape...

Not in the original NES version. The remake of SMB3 they put into Super Mario All-Stars on the Super Nintendo had fancier graphics and game saving put into it. And they actually made it easier believe it or not! The original NES version was about as hardcore as it gets :D

The only game I ever remember giving me that much trouble was Bomberman Hero on the N64. My dad and I literally spent years trying to beat that one boss. Maybe I was just really bad at the game, but for me, it was almost unbeatable. I remember a couple of near-unbeatable games on the SNES and Genesis, like the Mortal Kombat games, the Contra games, and the Splatterhouse games. Most games on the PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, 360, or Wii havn't given me too much of a problem. I'll get stuck on a section here and there, but the games are perfectly beatable without having to master the game.

As for me, I prefer to have a game be a challenge without it being simply ruthless. From the sounds of things, many NES games like Mario 3 were so hard that they were almost unenjoyable. That's when it just isn't even worth playing anymore, for me at least. I enjoy a game that can present a challenge to any skill level, like Virtua Fighter 4, without having any part that's flat-out overkill or ridiculously hard, like the Jinpachi fight in Tekken 5. I also think that difficulty selection has played a part in making games more enjoyable. I'll usually try to start games on the medium difficulty, but if it starts to get too hard for me to progress without wanting to hurl my controller at the screen, I'll turn the difficulty down to a more playable level. This way I can progress, but still challenge myself without the game becoming unbeatable.

And there are only 3 games right now that will make me want to toss my controller at my TV: Burnout 3/Revenge (I think I get a bit too competitive on that one), Virtua Fighter 4 (I get a bit too competitive on that one as well), and Tekken 5 (JINPACHI!).

Agreed. It's a disgrace to say it wasn't a fun game.

Two player action on the SNES - oh so fun.

It wasn't fun at all, and not because of the difficulty, but because it was merely average.

I dont mind the fact that the market is full of casual gamers.
The masses allow for some advances we wouldn't see otherwise.

Back in the day i could take down contra without a death and so could my cousin (and yes it was total memorization) But, now i consider myself pretty casual as i have kids and a lot on my plate. I still have my original NES set up right next to the wii and PS3 for my sons. These days I'm pretty hard pressed to even beat one boss on any megaman. I remember being let down when we beat megaman 2 the same day we bought it lol.

But I just wish the casual gamer wouldn't ruin a good game with a BS opinion.
People just need to realize "oh this isnt my type of game, rather than assuming because its too hard it must be a crappy game.

I got a kick out of the reviews for a great port of wolfenstien on the iphone.
People were flat out pissed at how bad the graphics were lol

I think Shigeru made Wii Music for the crybabies as a joke!!!

While I believe a game being too hard shouldn't warrant a poor review to bring the app rating down, I also believe complaining about it is dumb. Not everybody is a hardcore gamer like you. Some people just go to games for a little bit of fun and get their minds off other things. The amount of people that actually dedicate more of their time to games like you are the minority.
