just because real gamers think this is a great game, it doesn't mean it will sell well, why is it that the best independent movies never make any money? And I meant simplicity in gameplay and graphics, I thought this was supposed to be a cool game that combined classic 24 bit images with simple colors with gameplay that would mimic a combination of metriod and megaman, now it appears to be an action game with puzzles, 15 different other iphone games, and crazy new environments, a better choice would have been to quickly produce a game like their original idea that they could release in a few months and sell for 99 cents- $2.99, spending too much time and money on anything is always a poor choice, especially in this market, you may be the gamer but I am the business man
I'm not sure he even knows what he's talking about. This is obviously an ambitious project with a small development team, and they're listening closely to the community - this game isn't going to be completed over night and I wish the team well, they should take as much time as they need. The app store doesn't particularly need huge advertising bucks to sell, unlike movies. If they nail the look and feel of the franchise and present it in a slick way then they will no doubt do fine, forums like toucharcade will spread the word if the game is any good, which it certainly looks to be. I just hope it has a decent plot!
My guess is that everyone involved has a day job, so I don't expect that they're about to "run out of money.". As to quality, every update they've shown has made it look better.
so if you were in their position you would just throw all of your savings into this project as soon as your budget began to run out? That doesn't sound very ethical. And just like I said before, although the updates look really good, the game has become more than they originally intended, you can have your opinions, you're certainly entitled to that, but I'm just saying that I feel like this game has become too big for its own good
I think that the game keeps looking better and better with every update as well. As for you saying: "so if you were in their position you would just throw all of your savings into this project as soon as your budget began to run out? That doesn't sound very ethical.", I think squarezero was just saying that they all have day-jobs and do this in their spare time so there really is next to no monetary overhead. Thus they shouldn't be in any danger of running out of money... Just my take on it though
We do have jobs, yes, so budget is really not an issue. And trust me, the game has not become some unwieldy monstrosity - we certainly have it under control and are closing in on Beta. And as far as an iPad build goes... we've talked about it, but nothing serious yet. Thanks for the support, everyone, and happy gaming!
I think your point of view is well justified: more than one team has lost their shirt in the app store. As Jclef points out, this seems to be more of a labor of love, like the Disney animator who makes a cool movie on the side. If they're lucky, this turns out to be a massive hit and everyone quits their day job. But I'm sure they're not counting on that.
I am not gonna read the pages and pages of comments so im sure im not the first person to say this.....but WOW this game looks sweet. the character movement looks amazing.
You know I've missed this thread every time it comes up. I've never been a big Metroid or Mega Man fan frankly, but I did really get into Turrican back in the day, which has some similarities. Looking at this though I'm really digging the graphics and action, and the animations are pretty nice and fluid. Definitely something I'll look for when it comes out. I'm not sure what's up with alexsmokin27's pessimism though. I can certainly identify with part time development, and it is not easy on any front. I know a few developers in the same boat, too. You do what you can when you can while trying to hold together some minuscule semblance of a personal life. It's bloody hard to do (just ask my wife), but the rewards are worth it.
PLEASE!!!!!!!! give away the shoot button and let em shoot by tab the direktion to shoot... make a little usefull use of the touchscreen instead of trying to simulate a gamepad completely... i wantet EVER"!!!!!! ...a 2d metroid on the ds with tab to shoot funktion!! ...be my hero ^^ out of this.....looks REALY!!! good to me ^^
Warpgate coming out makes me feel really excited about this game. For some reason I feel like if one of the games I have been following for a while just came out, the others should as well. Any news at least? I like seeing this thread closer to the front of the upcoming games section!
Wow, how far this game's come. Looks really amazing. I bet it's the iPhone Metriod like Rolando was Locoroco and Soosiz was.... Something. Great works though devs. I'm really looking forward to it.
just saw the latest video, and i must say, this game is starting to look very sweet. it looked like a fun little platformer before, and now it looks like a classy polished game. very impressive.
