Dunno if this was said previously, but why instead of the always-online (which I really hate) they don't sync your offline progress with they stored at the servers last time you connected to the online service, that could be quite annoying but at least could work against the hackers as they are claiming, because there's pretty much nothing to stop the piracy.

We do listen to feedback and we definitely value the feedback that has been shared regarding MC5. The most recent example of this is how we removed the online only requirement from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 based on community requests. So, if the game team notices that the online only requirement is in-fact hurting the MC5, then the appropriate actions will be taken.

Our main goal with this feature is to provide a level playing field for all of the MC5 players. We are definitely being more proactive and trying to be more efficient at handling hackers/cheaters in our games because at the end of the day, nobody likes playing with them. Between moderating how effective this method is and how it affects the game, we will have enough evidence to keep or remove the online only requirement after the launch.

We don't have any plans at the moment to port the game to the Vita. If that should change I'll let you know or we'll make an announcement about it :)

Yes! Finally. I'm so ready to announce this. My Twitter feed is full of people asking me 25/7. Yes, 25 hours a day.

    @Rip
The thing is that you're taking this as the ultimate way to deal with hackers when the game wasn't released yet. GL only said that they expect this to be enough to deal with any potential hackers, but they can't tell the future or anything like that. This is just another game with online DRM, and that never stopped hackers from doing their job.

I've also played some other mobile online games, and honestly I just don't understand what's the problem with GL games. SFIV Volt and SFxT have lots of very competitive players and people who care TOO much about winning, yet the only thing I saw while playing online was a cheat to get x ammount of BP on Volt (points you get from playing online), and those are TOTALLY useless and don't affect gameplay. I've never seen someone with infinite Super meter or something like that. If you search on the internet you'll find that there were some cheats for that, but it seems that now none of them work. I remember that after GL got rid of the hacks of MC3, new ones were built and the game was filled with hackers again within DAYS. That didn't happen in either of those games. And, of course, you can play those games offline without probs.

If this is the price we have to pay to play a game without hackers, then go for it, but you can't say that this is the only way to do it when the game isn't even released yet.

And one more thing: MC4 and Nova 3 weren't as infested as MC3 for sure. On Nova 3 I only found a couple of people using the no-reload-for-the-rocket-launcher hack, and none on MC4.

I for one am glad that GL is finally being proactive about hackers. I have had all iterations of MC and each version has been infested. Those people complaining about having to have constant connectivity are more than likely the people that have hacked or are/were planning on hacking MC5.

Criticizing GL for being proactive "when the game isn't even released yet" is not only bone headed but pointless. There has been a specific pattern of MC games being hacked. They are trying not only to protect the integrity of the game, but also to keep hackers from stealing from them. When people have to pay for credits to pay for weapons or upgrades and hackers have unlimited funds, ultimately they are stealing from GL. There isn't a precedent for a game company prosecuting anyone for this up to this point, but you can be damn sure they are looking for a way.

If you are against a company trying to protect their customer base from a bad experience and from also trying to protect their bottom line, you don't understand business. But the good news is, one day you will grow up and understand how the world works.

Well then I can say you got very lucky because the sheer number of hackers in NOVA 3 certainly killed the series and that while MC4 did a substantially improved job of banning hackers and had much higher levels of security that were effective, they were still a problem and a noticeable problem.

I've played plenty of matches in NOVA 3 that had nothing but hackers in it and again MC4 definitely took substantial steps in the right direction but constant app updates to remove vulnerabilities was never really a long term option or a viable solution.

So it depends on whether you want a viable long term solution or one that relies on constant updates to the app, which do again take time and many people will leave the game in the meantime.
And that is based on first hand experience and a whole lot of evidence.

And no, I don't think it is the ultimate solution but it is the most effective one that closes the door on them for the most part and allows for a much more proactive and immediate way of dealing with them.
If another option is developed in the future, I'm sure it will be considered but as much as I am supporting the current option, you're suggesting an outdated method that has proven itself to be either ineffective in the long term or requires a huge amount of manpower and time to maintain. Neither option is sustainable.
Now that might be an option with a COD or a GTA or a Max Payne 3 but this is a mobile game, it's really a very different thing.

If you can come with a better option that offers the same level of security as the option they've gone with let em know. I also made it clear that it was not the only option they tested or considered, simply that it was the option that came out on top as offering the best options.
Now we can go around this topic all day long and numerous other options can be suggested, put forward, discussed, dismissed, endorsed and whatever but if you want to play without hackers, this is currently the most viable solution. It's not the ultimate solution or the only solution but it is the one that proved most effective for the current environment and the platform and its gone through a substantial amount of testing that neither of us would be able to replicate and is one of the key factors that has gone in to the reason for such a long development period.

They want to protect this one. They wanted to protect the other ones as well and tried very hard to do so but that old method just didn't do what it needed to for them and had too many vulnerabilities.
I'm personally very glad to see that they are still doing their best to try and keep it secure and are willing to invest time, money and people along with taking risks and trying out new methods to do just that, keep it secure.

Anyway, as the release date is being announced tomorrow, we will find out for ourselves in the near future I'd guess so we can just drop this topic for now, agree to disagree and come back to in the future when its level of effectiveness in the outside world becomes clear.
Maybe other options will be available by then, who knows, we will have to wait and see how it plays out.

There better be no hackers or pirates if they make it always online.
