I'm tempted to give this a go (the patch thing) because I really really wanna play MH but it sounds like NPC dialogues aren't patched which kind of bothers me. I kinda want to get "into" the world and not just hunt. I also feel like the NPC dialogue would probably teach you how to do stuff which is necessary since I'd be a new player. But it looks sweet how pretty much everything else would be in English... ahh the temptation. Where's the real English version??
Mates, there's already an iOS title screen (which says "Monster Hunter Freedom Unite") included the app, so I take a western release for granted. They don't do this for a reason. From Wikipedia: edit: lol, dunno if this makes any sense but I've sent a mail asking about a western release to Capcom Europe. Let's see if they care and if / what they'll answer. Haven't seen any mention about a mail to Capcom here, so I thought I try.
What the hell? I killed Gaoren but the Hypnoc quest that unlocks Nehkot's quest isnt showing as the urgent quest. Am i missing something?
I thought Gaoren was the only requirement to unlock Hypnoc? At least that's what i remember. Time to check on quest guides i guess. Grrrr.... btw... Since i couldnt do Hypnoc yet, i killed Lao Shan Lung only to have the dreaded thing happen. His head was "inside the fort" so i couldnt carve it. -_-
Yeah well, just checked the monsterhunter wikia page and it just says taking down gaoren should unlock Hypnoc. Imma check other guides if i can find anything.
Oh dood, how stupid of me... Haahahah... I should be talking to Felyne Elder Nekoht to see the Hypnoc quest. wtfbbq. Ghahahahaha!
How playable do you guys think this game is without translated NPC dialogue? I'm still incredibly tempted..
Playability-wise, VERY. This is one game where there really isnt an unfolding story. All it has is a backstory that you can easily understand. The bulk in this game is the addictiveness of equipment collection, while you have to endure highly skill-based brutal boss battles. I wont push you into buying the JP version, but... There are literally thousands of items and equipment to collect. Each equipment you forge has it's own unique looks on your avatar. You can equip 5 equipment types: Head, Arms, Body, Waist, & Leg armors. There are 11 weapon types: Great sword, Long Sword, Sword and Shield, Dual Blades, Hammers, Hunting Horns, Lances, Gunlances, Bows, Light Bowguns, & Heavy Bowguns. Each weapon type has unique moves, which make the player create their own strategies in defeating each of the monsters. There are 62 monsters, plus color variants of some of them. These arent just stronger versions, but color variants have unique moves of their own as well. Each of the monsters (including color variants) have their own unique behavior. Each monster part has their own defense values, in which case there are monster parts where they are weakest at. That said, weakpoints also depend on the type of weapon you are using. You cant just hit the monster weaknesses if you want to complete armor sets though, as armor sets unlock skill sets. You have to hit different monster parts to break them, or cut them, which is mostly the case for tails, which in turn give a chance of gathering those parts of the monsters. You'll be surprised at how much strategy is involved in taking down these monsters. Some monsters are approximately 5 to 8 screen large. All this said, the game has MORE to offer.
Gah... you make a good case. I'm leaning on it now! I do hope I'm not missing out on tutorials and such because I can't read the Japanese dialogues and end up playing / doing half the game wrong. That's the only thing I'm worried about. But it'd be my first MH so I'm actually kind of excited doing this. The guy who made the english patch is awesome in giving me hope for this
i'm a pretty long-time fan of the series, though i had never been able to play freedom unite past the demo (in my younger, jobless days) and i caved waiting for an english version of this and bought the japanese app yesterday. unfortunately, the patch didn't work for my jailed ipod and i for some reason wasn't able to rename root folders and files via ifunbox, so i'm playing the game 100% untranslated. that said, ESPECIALLY if you're new to the series, watch a couple beginning gameplay videos for freedom unite to get a feel for where to go, who to talk to, etc. take it from me. i've been watching a couple hours-worth of videos a day (but mostly just because of how excited i am about this) the game's definitely worth the purchase, even in japanese, but as exact-psience was saying, there is a LOT to it, and i guarantee you'll still enjoy it (and the controls work great, surprisingly!) but it is an absolute must to not go into it blindfolded. not when you can't understand anything, anyway.
Its pretty harding find people to play online. I think out of 10-15 tries only 1 times I managed to play with someone. Every other time people just either afk or leave in and out
I'm in the Uk and I've changed my store to Japan but I'm having a hard time finding a way to buy reasonably priced iTunes credit online for the Japanese store. The game shows up as £2.99 (GBP Sterling) but the TA article said its 1600 Yen. Can anyone direct me to an easy safe way to get some credit on my Japanese account paying with PayPal ? Thanks in advance for any tips. Just bought Ultimate for my 3DSXL but I'm looking forward to trying this.
man I love this game so much... waiting for English (if ever) might actually kill me. I seriously might go out and buy a PSP just to play this game.
i bought two of these since the 500 yen cards were sold out, but it's tough to call that "reasonably priced" ;P (i dished out over $40.00 for a value of about $30, but i didn't mind paying a little extra if it meant i wouldn't have to wait as long for this) that site's good though. after ordering, i received 6 itunes codes over email about 11 hours later that worked perfectly exact-psience also mentioned offgamers, which i was unfortunately having problems with (as far as mobile validation goes, might work perfectly fine for most others though)
Thanks for the reply but I just bought 3000 yen from play-Asia although my code hasn't shown up yet :/ only been 10 minutes though. Fingers crossed.
