And why should the onus be on the consumer to do all this? The responsibility lies with Apple to make sure that their product is as accessible as possible and to make sure that anyone who can get their hands on it will have an experience that is user friendly and easy. This isn't rocket science. If they fail to do that, then people will attempt to get their products in whatever way is easiest. Then I sincerely hope that you never try to set up a business. If you go in expecting your customers to accommodate your business model, then... what can I say? It's fairly obvious. You missed my point entirely. Isn't the point of this forum to discuss iOS applications? How is a pirate's opinion any less important or any less intelligent than the opinion of someone who buys their applications through iTunes? In some cases, I'm sure it is - but assuming that is the case simply because of how someone downloads an application is absurd. How can you place value on someone's opinion based on an action so simple? No, I didn't. I have no reason to. If people are so offended by what I say that I end up getting banned, then so be it. I'm not going to censor my opinions based on what others think I should and shouldn't say. If I've broken the rules, then feel free to slap the banstick across my face - I'll pester the moderators somewhere else I'd rather not have to, but I'm willing to accept the consequences that come with speaking my mind. My question was not strictly about the rules of the forum, although you decided either to try to be smart with me or you just missed the point. I'm asking why you view theft of tangible items as being more acceptable than copyright infringement/theft of intellectual property/whatever the official term is.
I'm not sure why we're so worried about the opinion of thieves. Everything they say can always be boiled down to two things: 1. Entitlement; 2. Justification. Every. Single. Time. They might come up 13 paragraphs of twisted logic (and a thief's "logic" is often a wonder to behold), but it always comes down to those two things: why they are entitled to have anything they want, and why they are justified in their illegal and unethical activities.
Or... or... maybe they just do it because they can. Maybe it's illegal and unethical to you. But not everyone has the same values/logic/morals, etc... Not that I'm condoning it or anything.
It's illegal by law; what the hell? It doesn't matter what the f**k they think. The moderators here at TouchArcade try to enforce the rules. It was never about morals and personal values.
You know what isnt rocket science? Not paying your hard earned (I assume) money on something which doesnt work for you. Maybe that makes way too much sense for you to understand I guess! Please tell me who forced these people to buy iDevices in the first place Or lied to them about appstore until they handed over the money? Its NOT apple's responsibility to make sure appstore or even idevices are available in every/any part of the world. If they dont find it financially beneficial, they wont do it. Its a business in case you forgot. And how does that justify piracy? Its just a frigging app. Not food water or medicine. I can justify someone going against the law for his/his loved one's life (or something equally serious) but breaking the law for some... frigging game? lmao. Stop it already before I die of laughter here. Ya, as obvious as the huge impact mozambique appstore's absence makes on Apple's bottom line! I'm sure apple's decision to not sell apps in mozambiue (and w/e other countries) is the reason why they are performing so bad!! Dont try to act smart when you dont know what you're talking about. You're talking about the same idiot who doesnt have enough self control to stop himself from getting a 2 dollar app illegally right? Here lemme point it out to you. A pirate got Pocket RPG for free. Why do think his opinion will be helpful for me when I have to pay for it. Aaarghhh damn it. That once again makes too much sense doesnt it? Sorry if it once again went over your head! What exactly is it that you're smoking? I'm genuinely interested coz you seem to have no idea bout anything which you're saying here including TA policies. Apologies I asked you to use common sense without realizing you might not have any. Now please tell me where the hell in this world did I say it was acceptable? or more acceptable than piracy? oh wait, I guess you're still under influence. I just hope you have someone to drive you home. Driving under influence is not just illegal like piracy it can be fatal for you and others too. Now please dont reply before you are sober. Have some pity on me. I'm genuinely afraid I might die laughing if I read one more post of yours like this one.
I'm wondering what's so unjust about being paid for your work. If you were poor, surely that's one of the single most important aspects of society to you?
You've resorted to insulting my intelligence now? I think it's time for you to take a step back. If you can't deal with my questioning of the policies of this site then I have to wonder how you ended up as a moderator. The fact that I don't agree with you and that I see things differently automatically means that I have no common sense and I'm under the influence? Yeah, okay. There's nothing else to say, really. I tried to keep the conversation civil and I kept personal attacks out of this. Yet, for some reason, you chose to insult my intelligence and suggest that I'm not thinking straight. I don't care to have an e-fight and go around blindly insulting others when I don't know the first thing about them. It's quite clear that this can't continue as a simple discussion of morals, so I'm done with this topic. There are far better things to do in life.
First your aggressiveness just is phenomenal. Stamp your feet and make some more noise K? I am thinking those that scream the loudest are the most guilty. The site has its policies and they are made for everyone - just THINK about what you are saying - talk freely about piracy alongside the developer you are stealing from? The policies are what they are and you have no right to question them and IMNS has EVERY right not to deal with you questioning them. You know what else is in the rules? You get banned for making a moderator's job more difficult. Think about that. What I don't understand is why there is even a debate about this - piracy is wrong. Period. And anyone who says it isn't for some lame excuse is just wrong. Period. I am not going to sit and reiterate the posts by IMNS or Vovin, both of whom outlined the how ridiculous it is to even attempt to justify it; reasons not to and pointed out how much air is between your ears if you do partake of the evil fruit. BTW, there is an appstore in every country that sells any of the devices that need it. And if there isn't one directly in that country then it is tied to the US. Just one lame excuse after another from all of you freeloading buccaneers. Notice I am not equating jailbreaking with piracy. Jailbreaking is for style; piracy is for theft. It's summer vacation in this hemisphere - you children have no school, instead of arguing bogus facts go mow your neighbor's lawn and get rewarded with about 10 apps. Mow two, mow three - whaddya know. Heck go look in the couch and I bet you find enough change for an app. Pirate cuz you can? Watch out... this is from tomorrow's NY Sunday Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/17/opinion/sunday/17sun3.html Mommy and Daddy won't be too happy if their IP gets flagged now will they? And before you whine and complain that is for music and videos - that's the first step, the rest is about to come.
You're right; even Random_Guy's one sentence posts contain more sense than the idiotic justifications for piracy being shared here.
What if they don't recognize the authority of any governing body? Besides, everyone knows laws are just suggestions. Like pants.
I'm convinced this is what killed off the PSP. Hopefully the iOS platform won't suffer from the same fate. I read that NYT article and one from a week ago, and hopefully ISPs will start being more cooperative with content providers in cracking down on illegal downloads (although big music and movie are the only ones at present with enough cash and influence to force this.) Piracy is a rampant, festering disease on our gaming hobby. You are ignorant to say otherwise.
This is ridiculous to have to explain this but let me try to get it in easy words. It's a privately run iPhone / iPod Touch games website. The Owners and Admins choose rules for the members to follow. Developers of said games are also members of this forum. Owners and Admins have decided it's not polite to talk about stealing their product in front of their faces. They recognize the rules of their own governing body - what the heck does anything else matter? Members are free to chat and share their opinions ONLY WHEN IT ISN'T AGAINST THE RULES! Do you have a curfew? If you come home later than your curfew do you get grounded? Same thing. Or if you are older - do you have to be at work at a certain time? If you are late you get docked? Surely there are SOME rules you can relate to even if it is merely put the toilet seat down to keep your wife happy.
This is similar to what I wanted to say. It's free exposure, pirates will download many games just to try them all out and see if one sticks. If they HAD to pay, likely they wouldn't buy any, or they would buy very very few very very selectively. These people never would have bought your game, and never would have even tried your game, unless they could get it for free. They never would have talked about your game. So, 1) be happy someone is appreciating your hard work/art, and 2) be happy for the exposure. If your game is good enough, having as many copies out in the market place will generate more sales--it doesn't really matter if those copies are pirated or not. The iOS market is huge, jailbroken device numbers are fairly few. If only pirates are downloading your game, likely your game isn't good, and you need to re-think who your audience is, re-think your marketing stratagy, and re-think the type of game you are making.
Your statement is ambiguous, but I will take the liberty to assume that you meant that pirates would never have purchased the pirated game in the absence of piracy. Do you have statistical evidence for this otherwise absurd statement? And let me ask a simple question or two to the pirates out there: Given the chance, would you steal games from your local gaming store? Would you steal gum from the local convenient store? How about a few bucks sitting on a friend's shelf? Your neighbor's mail? What's stopping you? Again, where's the evidence backing up your claim? The burden of proof is on those making this ridiculous claim. Is piracy any less on games that offer a lite version?
Wow, bro. Seriously? I was just joking around. Trying to lighten up the mood in this grim thread. You guys take yourselves way too seriously.
