    Hi all,

So I made a mistake a year ago by buying a Windows phone. Phone itself, camera, OS etc are all great but the app/game store is a joke and I am really missing portable games.

I can't bring myself to spend top dollar again only a year on, but don't want to load up a bunch of new/demanding games and have them run slow or not at all.

Is Android the best bet? I've only used an iPad/iPod touch previously as far as Apple goes but love the store and the selection of apps and games. Is just about everything these days released on Android as well?

What phone would you recommend to handle everything that is out?

I'm normally pretty up on technology but am lost with phones so appreciate all advice.

    Cheers

I think most things now are released on both IOS and Android platforms if not at the same time, fairly close to each other.

If it were me, I would keep my Windows phone until the contract expires and then upgrade to a decent handset (cheaper that way). In the mean time, look at a tablet. I have an IPad and a Nvidia Shield tablet. The shield will run anything out there, stream PC titles (via an Nvidia based PC and via a streaming rental service) and will cost a fraction of the price of an iPad. Mine was £300 14 months ago and I think retails for £200 - £300 in the UK and I have seen for $200 in the US.

Android devices have more choice with controllers also and the Shield has a native controller for £50.

Saying that, I do play my IPad more but that's mainly due to the screen size.

Depends on what your budget is really. With android, I'd suggest waiting for something with a Snapdragon 820 (the new "flagship" processor) to release in the mid-range price bracket.

LG & Samsung both announced phones recently which look to be some of the best of the year, but they cost upwards of $650 or thereabouts I believe.

Last years best Android phones were the Galaxy Note 5, Nexus 6P & LG V10 (my person opinion based off of readings and watching a lot of reviews) which would all be fine for gaming. Personally, the 6P would be my choice because it runs stock android meaning it has less bloat=snappier phone

I do most all of my gaming on my iPad Mini 2 personally, love the bigger screen. Doesn't run the newer "graphically intense" games nearly as smooth as I'd like but it gets the job done.

I want to add to this topic that many company (at least here in Europe) are nowadays selling the iPhone 5s now for half of what it has cost when the Device launched a couple of years ago.

The Device is still top notch if it comes to Gaming and if you don`t mind that it has an smaller screen then the iPhone 6 or 6s you will definitly not make an mistake with buying it at the current moment and the current price.

    Agreed.
I personally use an iPhone 6s to play Dragon Encounter and it runs incredibly smooth.
I've played more graphic intensive games like Chaos Rings 2 and it has no problem with that as well.

Go with the iPhone SE if you don't mind the screen being smaller. It's basically a budget 6S and will last you a good few years.

I think as far as Android goes even budget phones now can run every app or game acceptably, I've seen no reason at all to upgrade my now old LG G3 which I'm sure is probably worth next to nothing now.

Site in mainI always buy my phones outright, instead of on contract. Simple requirements - unlocked GSM, SD card, great camera, GPS, removeable battery. I'm still using my Nokia N8 with infinite storage, 12 Mpix camera, etc., with H2O wireless service. I have an unlocked iPhone 5 that I use as an iPod, but, as a phone, it's not very good. The best thing about using a Symbian phone is that they're rarely hacked, they use less processing power to do similar tasks to iOS and Android, and the GPS works when I'm offline [duh, airplane mode]. Also, with any unlocked GSM phone, I can use any SIM, anywhere in the world for cheap cell service. Those are my requirements. YMMV. Might get a Nokia Windows phone next, or put a SIM card in my iPhone.tenance. We will be back online in about 7 minutes.
