Anybody attending any music festivals this year? I should be at Lollapalooza and All Points West. They are great fun, and I encourage all music fans to join me!
I think he is referencing this here http://www.ktla.com/landing_morningnews_clip/?Police-Taser-Naked-Man-at-Coachella-=1&blockID=274959&feedID=2240
I was not suggesting your thread should be locked. The police officers who used a taser on a naked man should be locked away. EDIT: That's right, thanks Dave.
I will go to the True Colors show if that comes back. But I have heard rumors that it is not happening this year.
http://www.truecolorstour.com/ "We are excited to announce that we are shaking things up! While we will not be touring this summer as we have in the past, we will be hitting the road again in new and exciting ways. Currently we are not ready to make any touring announcements, but we look forward to soon sharing with all of you our upcoming plans for 2009 and 2010, including the True Colors Tour going international."
Ugh, after this last Lollapalooza I think I'm done with music festivals. I don't know if I'm getting too old or what but overpaying for a hotel room in Chicago, overpaying for the actual festival tickets, then being absolutely gouged in every sense of the word for things as simple as a bottle of water while sitting in the sun at Grant Park just isn't really as fun as it used to be for me. Last time I went the band lineup was pretty mediocre, and they had all the stages set up in this huge circle, but the problem was they didn't seem to have a consistent sound setup. One stage was substantially louder than the others, so the quieter stages would turn it up to compensate, and it just turned in to a volume arms war until you really just couldn't hear anything. Add in the armies of teenagers filtering through the crowds begging for cigarettes, a lighter, looking for petition signatures... not to mention the ones trying to sell you wacky plastic jewelry and dime bags. I want to say it cost my girlfriend and I close to a grand when it was all said and done to sit around in a sunny field and be annoyed for a few days. :\ We just go to regular concerts now. Much better experience.
I really loved Lolla last year, although the mid tier this year is MUCH better. I actually had a great experience, although the whole water bottle thing was kind of ridiculous. Tickets aren't exactly overpriced when you think of how much it would be to see each band separately, although I get where you are coming from. Festivals aren't for everybody
I'm going to Bonnaroo and All Good. To see Phish for two nights with some magic paper, Oh the possabilities. And All Good's line-up is full of some of my favorites. I wish I could make it to Michigan to Rothbury, the Dead's only summer festival. Hodapp, you should try festivals where you camp out, bring your own food, camelbak, 30000+ person party (or even you're friends bands that play all weekend with 50 people, BYOB), and some rockin' tunes. I hate concerts, finding parking, can't bring your own water, and there's no room to dance.
I've actually been talking about hitting up a few with my friends. BYOB automatically makes everything more appealing. That's one of the things I hate most about big name festivals. Your $200+ ticket turns in to a $300+ day after you buy a couple beers, a few hot dogs, and a bottle of water instead of just being able to bring a cooler with a few sandwiches and a six pack. I guess I should revise my original rant to say I'm done with massive overpriced music festivals with overbearing security instead of all music festivals. The cool thing about Rothbury is they have accommodations for RV's... Renting an RV is remarkably affordable when you're splitting it with 4-5 people if you've never looked in to it. (Especially now with the economy kind of in the crapper, they're giving them away.)
Warped doesn't excite me, Lolla is too far for me to go, and there isn't a Projekt Revolution this summer . I'm going to a few shows but no big festival
I'm missing Earth day Birthday right now, I drove past it on the way into work today, as my buddy called me asking if i wanted a free ticket... I'm missing - 311 | Chevelle | Static-X | Candlebox | Cold | (hed) p.e. | All That Remains | Pop Evil Not really too upset, I really only wanted to see 311 again... Aside from that it's hot out, crowded as all hell and the sound never sounds good at an outdoor venue. I prefer to attend the house of blues shows or hard rock live shows (much smaller venue seating is only 2500 people max for most shows). Sound is perfect and the artists are soooo awesome on a small stage. I've seen STP, smashing pumpkins, just to name a few at the hard rock live. if your ever in FL check who's playing those two "Bars", you'll be in for a treat....
