Well, there's a thread for movies, so I figured I'd make one for any music discussion at all. If it doesn't fit in any of the other categories on TouchArcade's forums, go ahead and discuss it here. I'll start off by saying that it's confirmed on Avenged Sevenfold's youtube page that their new album "Nightmare" is coming out July 27th, and that their new single, also entitled "Nightmare" is on their youtube page. Who else heard the song and is looking forward to the album's release?
I figured that to be just concerning favorite bands and music. This is here for anything, whether it be upcoming music, discussions on what you think a band has done right/wrong, etc.
Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back Great album, but I think he should have let up a little bit and used some percussion and electronic/guitar instruments. As it sits it is a slightly depressing album with a few really good stand out covers His vocal is extremely naked over completely symphonic and piano based arrangements with an emphasis on bleak soundscapes. It has taken me 6 listens to really enjoy it, but that is the same for all his music.
Thier first album was rad, after that meh. I on the other hand am really looking forward to Parkway Drive's newest album "Deep Blue". Going to be SICKKKKK
Just jammed on it for the first time. It's better than what they have been putting out lately, but still not terrific (just can't get into the vocals anymore). Mike Portnoy tears shit up though. RIP The Rev... Understand though that I havn't liked A7x since Waking the Fallen. lol I'd be willing to give the rest of the CD a chance when it comes out though.
Distant Relatives by Damian Marley and Nas has come out, quite a cool mixture of Reggae and Rap, and where it works (which is most of the time) it sounds really good
I really don't blame you for only liking Waking the Fallen. Best album ever IMO. Unfortunately, I don't think there's going to be any more screaming albums, like WtF. I heard that M.Shadows apparently wanted to scream for one album, and go from there, and apparently it didn't work too well for him. Possibly too much vocal strain. On the other hand, I wouldn't say that they havn't put out anything great since that album. Both City of Evil and their self-titled album had some amazing songs, like Brompton Cocktail, Scream, Seize the Day, Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country, and most of all MIA. Sure, they're not as good as the songs on Waking the Fallen (except for MIA), but they're still great. I really can't wait for this album. Nightmare is a great song, and if the rest of the album is as good, I'll love it.
I didn't just like Waking the Fallen, I loved Sounding the 7th Trupmet as well. Both great albums, and WtF is definitely up there in one of my fav albums. But I dug it for the raw screaming and melodic guitars together. Without that is just sounds mundane to me. There were a couple songs from City of Evil that were ok but I dunno... just not the same. MIA is a sick f*cking song though. And yeah I don't think he will ever be able to go back to screaming. Sad. Like I said, definitely going to give Nightmare a shot too.
Yeah, I'm definitely listening to Nightmare when it comes out, but it definitely won't be Waking the Fallen. And I gave Sounding the 7th Trumpet a shot, and just didn't get into it as much. Maybe I just didn't give it enough time, but it wasn't my favorite. Of all of their albums, the 7th Trumpet definitely wasn't their best, but it wasn't bad either.
Yes, because its one of the best bands worldwide! I was in a concert here in Germany 2 years ago. It rocked like hell.
It was a lot more punk than anything hahaha. My favourite song on that CD was Turn the other way. One of the first "harder" songs I learned how to play on the guitar back in the day. So that song and album always has a special place in my heart hahahaha. Looking back at it not, it is definitely not near as hard as their latter stuff. Some of the solo's are pretty intense for me. It definitely wasn't as good as WtF and as their freshman album, it was really sketchy but fun. ^.^
There was one song on that album that I wasn't a fan of at all. The rest of the album wasn't too bad, like Turn the Other Way is pretty cool so far (I just turned it on), and Streets was pretty awesome, but overall, it just wasn't as good as their other stuff.
New STP album anybody? Personally I think it is just ok, not great. 7/10. It may seem like a natural progression for them but it is too far from their heavy roots and Scotts singing hasn't been the same since he started doing drugs. Another let down.
They f*cking suck now. They havn't done anything worth listening to since No. 4. Scott needs drugs again bad.
