Shift is the most fun out of all these three big names. For more depth in Career, more cars, more tracks, GT Racing gets the upper hand. But the graphics seem a bit dated and the draw distance simple sucks arse even in the new devices. I hate it everytime the Laguna Seca track is up . With a gun to my head and could only choose one, Shift is it.
But as we know, graphics aren't everything. I'd rather have better gameplay than better graphics any day. And Shift loses that battle by miles.
Specifically how is the GT gameplay better than Shift for you when in GT, a turn will suddenly show up in front of you out of the blue? Bad graphics or not, GT needs to polish this issue or it's gameplay score won't even compare to some $0.99 cent indie games that may look like 8-bit inspired but works like a charm. GT may have depth and tons of licensed cars which I honestly like but it's gameplay is something that I won't call better in comparison to a lot of games.
That is over-exagerating the graphical issues with GTR. I've never not been able to see the road or a turn on that road, mainly just buildings that suddenly pop-in. Seeing as you're racing a car, you should be focused on the road anyway, not taking in the scenery. I agree the graphical performace could be improved (framerate and pop-in) but this hasn't affected the gameplay for me. What is better in the gameplay you ask? How about: 1. Each car has a unique feel, some cars oversteer some understeer and others are well balanced through corners. That is realistic and adds challenge and skill to mix. Try keeping a beast like the Lamborghini Miura under control on a wet track, with all aides turned off. In Shift every car is just a shell, that drives exactly the same apart from some basic parameters like top speed and acceleration. Shift still feels a bit on rails as you never can really loose it like you can in GTR - can you even spin the car in Shift? Answer - no. 2. Shift is far too easy, the AI is way too dumb, challenge times too low etc. GTR offers more challenge, especially in later classes. With all the cars behaving differently that in itself increases the difficulty too. Plus the tracks are better, more challenging such as the awesome Laguna Seca and Monte Carlo - 2 of the best racing tracks ever. 3. There's just way more to do and more variety in GTR. There's over 100 cars to unlock, there's many cups to win, there's rally, track and street races, online and local multiplayer, achievements, youtube replays. There's just more in every department.
To each his own then, I guess. I'm having trouble with the Laguna Seca turns visibility because of the draw distance issues. This problem became too distracting when I started the S Event Class races. I already bought all the 5 most expensive cars and fully upgraded them. GT is an okay racing game with good depth but in gamplay alone, I don't think I'd rate it higher than Shift or RR. Just my 2 cents.
