PLEASE HELP! ok so im thinking about getting update 3.1 and i had this idea if my friend who has money in his itunes account from a gift card signs in to my computer's itunes, can he buy the update for me? has anyone tried something like this?

Cheapo Unless you have absolutely no way of paying for it, just do your duty and pay your taxes. I account-share with apps, but never with software updates. It's only $5 now, if I recall.
Honestly I don't think so because you would have to do more than just download it to your computer. You would need his iTunes ID to be authorized on your computer etc. If your friend already updated then it might not let him get it again. There are so many variables here that your friend might end up wasting his money just for you to save some.
if you're already on 3.0, the update is free. if you're not, it's only $5; just go to a store and buy an itunes card.
We already said probably not. People who share the same account in the same household have had it work but I am sure Apple has put in some fail safes to make sure it doesn't work amongst friends. Just get an iTunes card and do it yourself.
