So I recently got a new laptop and meanwhile my desktop need a reformatting so I moved a bunch of files, including everything itunes related, to the hard drive of my new laptop. Unfortunately I installed some software that corrupted my registry and lost everything on the hard drive. So now, after having reset the computer I'm trying to get back to using iTunes as usual with it. The trouble is that I don't have my old library file or any of my old app files. Now I can go through and download almost everything I need, but my favorite app, Comic Reader Mobi, was just banned from the app store for a year so I can't get any backup files for that or download it to my iTunes again. Meanwhile all the tabs in my device window are grayed-out and I can't add or remove anything. I am authorized on the computer. So...how do I add things and sync without losing the program I have no backup for? How do I sync new apps at all? Does anyone know? P.S.--I've been looking on the motherfracking Apple site for the last two hours and can't find anything relevant and I can't call them because I don't live in a country with a large enough consumer base for Apple to offer phone support.
Downloading everything again is the best thing to do. iTunes sucks. BTW: You can turn off syncing programms, but that doesn't work, it still syncs.
There's also a good number of programs out there that transfer songs and movies from your iPod to your harddrive. Senuti's great, but I'm not sure if you use a Mac.
I'm fairly sure I heard that particular app was due to be re-released on Cydia shortly in any case. EDIT: Just checked - you're right about iTunes' app syncing option being broken. 0_o Is this just since 9.1? I'm sure it used to work back on 8.x.
Try an Ubuntu Live CD/USB, heard that works, and if not, torrenting is your friend, but not your best friend
Oh cool, synching purchases got my files transferred and I made a backup of the comic program so I won't lose it again, so that's resolved. Pretty simple if I had just known. But I still can't add or delete any programs through iTunes on my computer, it's still all grayed-out. Thanks to everyone for the help.
No response from iTunes...anyone have ideas on how to get your iPod so you can add apps, podcasts, etc. to a new computer without the old library file? Still have to constantly go directly through my device's wifi which is kind of a pain...
Well, I was managing my apps directly on the device, but now that won't even work, so I now have no means of getting new apps on my device. I'm trying to download an app directly on my iPod and along with a couple other apps that were updated before, it simply says "waiting" and won't do anything although I am signed in to iTunes on my device and have a good wifi connection. Apple's e-mail was completely unhelpful, I did what they mentioned and it didn't work, and again they don't offer phone support where I am. Sigh.
Yeah, there is one about an hour and a half away from me, and also, they probably don't speak English nor I their language. Might try it in the hopes (but really in the hopes they don't screw up something else due to incompetence/lack of understanding what I want them to do...but every time I've had a computer problem in this country the specialists' idea was simply to delete my OS and start over 'coz they couldn't understand my English OS or maybe just had no idea what they were doing) that they can help...but it's not a sure thing by any means, or the best way to spend an afternoon, really. Not sure what other options I have at this point though. I can't just chuck my device for an Android after spending 300 dollars on apps, can I?
