I have a MacBook Aluminum and I want to update, but I can't decide if I should get a MacBook Pro or an iMac. I use my MacBook on the go a lot, but I don't program with it on the go that much. I could get the new iMac and email the projects over to my MacBook every once in awhile. Tough decision here, does anyone have a suggestion? ie: Is there something (from the info that I have given) that I am missing? The reason for updating is I want a faster computer, I have 2.something GHZ and 2GB of DDR3.

I simply don't understand how the 16:9 screens, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 are an improvement over the 16:10 1920 x 1200 screens of old. And this isn't only Apple. There are laptop manufacturers doing the same thing. Listen, I know some people like watching movies on these things, and the dullards can't get over the narrow black bars when watching widescreen movies in 1080p, but, honestly now...it's a goddamn computer. The extra resolution is nice to have. Is it a cost cutting thing that the entire industry is shooting for or something? It seems wacky that consumers would want less resolution and overall smaller screen real estate. The mouse looks f'n sexy though. So do the new Macbooks.
Sure it looks sexy. But I'm worried about it's use. I mean apple never had a reputation with Mouses. I don't like the mighty mouse and you have to clean it often. This mouse has no slide buttons. That is a must have for me bcause I use it to look at different windows sometimes. I hope this new toy has it and is easy to clean otherwise no buy.
Depends greatly on what you're doing. If you are doing graphics intensive work, and want to do it on the go, the high end 15" Macbook Pro is the best bet. If you want an easily transportable, but not entirely mobile, desktop replacement laptop, 17" high end Macbook Pro. If, however, you don't use the laptop for graphics intensive or processor intensive work, and would rather do such work at home, that new quad core is just...sex. Honestly, unless you're gonna sell your current Macbook Aluminum (which I think you mean the 13" Macbook "Pro" - which, tbqh, is misbranded by Apple IMHO as there's nothing "Pro" about an integrated GPU model), I'd go with the iMac, especially if you aren't doing "high end" stuff on the road. The Macbook Pro 15" has an option for both the mobile GPU and discrete GPU, so you could switch between them. The base 15" model lacks that option, so honestly it's no more than the current Macbook you have now, but a little larger. If you were in the market for a true Pro laptop, the higher end 15" would be the one to get due to having both the integrated and discrete GPUs. The 17" model (actually has it standard) has the integrated and discrete GPU setup as well, but that's more a desktop replacement model as I stated. It's not really for using on the go so much as being easier to travel with to different areas than a comparably powered desktop. Nice middle ground there. And for the $2500 you'd pay for that 17", you can get the 27" quad core iMac, upgrade to the high end quad core Intel i7 (currently Intel's highest spec CPU family) and add in 8GB of RAM and still have $100 with which to buy Applecare protection (I recommend via a 3rd party). Again, though, it really depends on what kind of work you're doing on your Mac.
BTW, one thing I don't like is the "new" Apple Remote: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC377?mco=MTMzNzQ4ODg I was hoping that the rumors of a multitouch and accelerometer controlled Apple Remote were true. Y'know...think iPhone/touch, but without the as powerful CPU, and sans GPU or RAM or OS or SDD storage. Just a touchscreen and motion sensing device. That would've been aces. Maybe for the next AppleTV?
Thanks for the reply Spiffy! I don't want a bigger laptop, that's for sure. I am thinking that I will keep my MacBook Aluminum (you are right, nothing pro about it) and get the iMac. I don't need the Quad Core, but 8GB of Ram would be nice! I will just do my programming and the like on the iMac and do my school on the MacBook. Now all I have to do is part with $1,000-2,000 BTW: The new Magic Mouse doesn't have the button that brings up all of the windows?? Apple, come on!!!
I don't have a Mac computer but I wish the PCs had a that mouse and keyboard becuase they look HOT Maybe I will get the new iMac becuase my dad has been looking for a new one And WTF is a unibody it sounds like another word to call a really fat person
If you're in school, you can get those nice little education discounts from Apple. Considerable savings there.
Apple's line of laptops (Macbook, and Macbook Pro) use a unibody design. Rather than separate panels put together as with other laptops (with screws and the like), Apple has a single solid sheet of aluminum cut into the shape of a laptop and "gutted" internally so they can put the components in. It's actually pretty nice looking and environmentally friendlier as it reduces overall waste.
