The ad has some points that are hard to argue with, but man they're just completely shitting on the iPhone. I still think that (at this point in time) no other phone stands a chance, no matter how many features it may offer.
I used to have Verizon cell service. It sucked and they were always looking for ways to charge more money. A lot of other former Verizon customers have said the same thing when I talked to them about their cellphone service history. Its obvious Verizon is just trying to get back in the game so to speak but I think its too late theyve already fell off.
Competition is always good for costumers. Just because the iphone is popular it doesn't mean that others should stop trying. I am 100% sure they are going to catch up some day. The Zune Hd is getting close. If I follow your logic, Apple should give up on Mac OS X because Microsoft has a much bigger market share????
I'm not sure what logic you're referring to, but I never said anything about any other 'smartphone' company giving up, or that they shouldn't keep trying to improve their products. I merely stated my opinion that currently, no other phone stands a chance.
While some are "trying to catch up", they're trying to catch up to the existing design. By the time they catch up, apple will release their latest concept and always stay ahead. Someone needs to think beyond touch screen cell phones and create the "new thing" to move beyond apple.
Two things: First, I love that ad, as it takes Apple to task for things in as direct a manner as I've seen in an ad. Sure I have an ipod Touch, but I bought it from a friend, buy mp3's from Amazon, and only buy the apps from iTunes as a way to support developers. I loathe them as a company, along with the mindless drones who think Jobs can do no wrong. Second, this phone better be damn good to back up its smack talk. the iPhone isn't indestructable. Anyone who thinks so, should take a look at Sony and their problems with the PS3. No one could touch them when the PS2 was the end all be all of consoles. Now, years later they're finally getting some must have exclusives, but it's too little too late. Sony now has to catch up to and then beat the Wii and the 360. It ain't gonna happen. Apple is good at creating new tech, but very bad when it comes to continuing the innovation. And much like Nintendo, these minor hardware updates are hardly revolutionary must have items. Cash grabs is a more appropriate term. Will I buy a Droid? It depends. I'd like to know more about it, and sadly the ad doesn't do much in telling us anything other than the iPhone's shortcomings.
hmmmm...i think they are very innovative but trickling it out to maximize profits. Historically, Apple has been very rollercoaster in the market, with the exception of the last few years.
I don't know where you are from but in the midwest verizon is the only carrier worth a damn. At&t is terrible at best. From illinois to michigan at&t has horrible coverage except in the largest cities. Verizon on the other hand has great coverage, i even get 3g at my summer vacation home which is out in the boonies and far away from any large city. Its nice to be able to browse the web with decent speed no matter where i roam in the midwest. From Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan verizon coverage is great.
What I was gonna say after I saw the video. Phone's keep on trying to emulate current designs but only come off as cheap carbon-copies. If they created something different from the iPhone, but with equally attractive features, it'd make the customers actually stop and think to make a choice instead of mindlessly going to the iPhone. But yeah, the iPhone wouldn't be that great a phone if it weren't for the UI and apps.
Last few years aren't the exception. Instead that's the real Apple lead by Steve jobs for you. iPhone is nothing but a continuation of iPod which they introduced in 2001(or was it 2000?). 8 years later and look how far they've come. I really doubt apple is going to be any less spectacular for the next five years either. And that's assuming Steve Jobs leaves apple in a year for any reason(won't happen but he's just a human being after all). Once SJ leaves, it'll be a different ball game altogether but until then there's nothing to worry about apple
The ad is probably the best ad for Google's Android platform I've seen. The other ads just go one about "blah blah blah phone...with Google" as if the general consumer knows that the "...with Google" refers to Android OS rather than just the friggin' search engine. Because, y'know...that's exactly what the mass market consumer thinks when they hear "Google". The goddamn search engine. And those consumers think to themselves "so what? I can search on Google with my [insert phone here]". You figure that the ad team behind those ads would figure that out. Motorola and Verizon have, but it might be too little too late, IMHO.
I know what you mean, I live by Detroit and when I go up to Baldwin for the summer the best I'll ever get is 3 bars EDGE, which kind of sucks
aaah...i see...I had no idea it's been around that long. This is what happens when my undereducated brain forms an opinion and posts it on teh internets. And I forgot about Jobs and his previous intermittent CEO-ishness.
the only thing thats held me back from getting an iphone is the fact that at&ts coverage sucks compared to verizon where i live. anywhere i go ill see my friends at&t bars and then ill look at mine and lo and behold..i have much better service. if the iphone would come to verizon -sigh- itd be a good day.
