Have the game and Frontiers expansion on both Xbox One and PC. Also Starpoint Gemini 2 and Rebel Galaxy on Xbox One. Have No Man's Sky limited edition for PS4 on preorder. Backed Star Citizen and should get a copy (whenever the heck that comes out). Will definitely be getting Everspace on Xbox One, as well. Plus when you consider mobile, you have Star Nomad 2, Rogue Star, Stellar Wanderer, FTL, Drifter (whenever the heck THAT one comes out), or you can just play classic GOF 1 or 2. See, I learned about the new direction that GOF 3 was taking for a long while from Pocket Gamer UK, and they are generally a pretty reliable source. It talked about the multiplayer aspects and the change to free-to-play, and this was way before E3, and way, waaaay, before this soft launch. But I gave quite a lot of reasons why I'm not as upset as I thought I would be. At the time, GOF 1 and 2 were pretty rare games. Nowadays, you got tons of different space trading games across a range of different types of platforms. So I'm looking into GOF 3 with cautious optimism; there's no hype at all, but I leave the possibility that the end product can show promise. If not, it's not the end of the world, as I already have noted a bunch of fallback options.
Yeah, there are a few hidden gems out there to enjoy on mobile besides this, lol stellar Wandere is descent at best. I only bought it for a dollar and hey it's similar to Gof 2 so I enjoyed it in some alders
To be fair,we might have been kind of harsh these past couple of pages. The game really isn't all that bad and if for instance the IAP aren't all that expensive-I will too probably give this game a chance because I have been waiting for it for a serious amount of time now and passing it up just won't feel right. If all we are speaking of here is to invest around 20 euro at max to be able to get some nice progression into the game and some serious playtime, then I would be fine with it but I am more than sure this won't be the case.Games such as Clash of Clans have IAP raging up to 100 euro and such and even if you buy the largest bag of games-that won't keep you playing for long.People have to remember-this is mobile,no one likes spending more money on a mobile game than they would on a full fledged PC title that could deliver them over 60 hours of gameplay. To be honest I would love if they made one free and one paid version of the game but I am guessing that would also take them a lot of time but this way they would please old GOF players. I want to be fair with the developers here but they aren't being fair with us.
Welcome to another episode of "The Voice of Reason" So you don't like what they did with "your" game, we get it by now. Does your opinion matter, should Fishlabs listen to you, etc.? Here's some terrible news for you: Only if they sell less copies than we have people complaining here Also, I heard it is generally received favorably when you present your opinion in a calm and friendly manner. Hint: Wishing the plague on their house does not count. As for all the predictions that the game is a failure and so on: Let's wait till we see some sales figures, shall we? And - just in case you are wrong - will you come back here and admit it? Thanks for watching, back to our regular program.
Couldn't have agreed more. The game is not even out worldwide yet. It's in soft launch for Christ's sake.
Heh, thanks Nice to see another reasonable one. Oh, and forgot one thing earlier: If I have the choice between the opinion of an entitled spoiled uncouth brat and my job, I'll take my job any day, thank you. (just in case stuff flies by too fast here, this is in response to the people demanding that Fishlabs downsize because giving a job to 90 people is the end of the world or something like that) .
It is just simple logic, when you can't pay 90 people to work on your game then don't hire 90 people. It is a problem because it isn't like GOF3 couldn't have been made by 10 people but the developer/PR person says they are about to go bankrupt if they release it as a preemium title and that is only because they have to pay the salaries of 90 people along with all of the other financial stuff. Please don't act like a child, like you can't grasp the concept of downsizing a company to maximize profits,it's the basic lesson most companies learn within their first year.
Yeah, just sack 80 of them. Who cares about people and their families when the entitled mobile game players enjoyment is at stake.
We'll have to wait for their sales figures to judge that. Oh, and fun fact: unless you are one of the really big players, most gaming companies operate like this. Even with all those fancy predictive tools, you can never know for sure beforehand if what you are currently working on will keep the lights on. 90 employees beg to differ. It's a problem *for you* citation please You did notice the part where they had to file for bankruptcy in 2013? Also, market research? Looked at any current numbers on how premium fares compared to f2p? "only", I like that. Seriously, why has noone ever before had the brilliant idea to just do away with "paying salaries and all the other financial stuff"? Now I remember, the first part is called slavery I think. Or filing for bankruptcy, that's a surefire way to stop paying salaries, I heard. And the second, I don't know... stupidity? (/snarkiness off) All that pesky stuff like actually employing a bunch of people, instead of doing what the audience (aka you) demands. Nope, I'll still take my job over your opinion any day. Please don't act like a child, like you can't grasp the concept of running a company not only with the goal of maximising profits. Many, but not everyone operates like that. Also, this: Honestly, hats off to Fishlabs that they didn't shutdown outright, or lay off more than 1/3 of their employees. Yeah, then you can cater to your ... hhhmm, "vocal and loyal fanbase"? let's go with that ... again and feel good. So much better than providing jobs. (/sarcasm off) Bloody entitled brats, go work for a living, then we'll talk again.
@dunhila: Sorry, but you're getting a lot of things wrong here. We can affort to pay 90 people. And we need 90 people. Cause despite the fact that GOF3 is our next figurehead title, we have a lot of other stuff in the works as well. However, there is one thing we can indeed not affort: Deliberately making a game that has no chance at survival in today's app market. Fishlabs has always made high-end premium 3D games. And by premium I do not mean the underlying business model, but the overall quality. This is what we're good at, this is what we have done in the past and this is what we will do in the future. If following this path requires us to utilize different means of monetization and to focus on different gameplay aspects than we did in 2010, so be it. Cause at the end of the day, none of these things change the fact that Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore is a pretty amazing game. Sure, some people will slam it without even having given it a fair chance. Others will check it out thoroughly and find that it's not what they've been looking for. And yet again others will give it a try and have fun playing it. So all's good.
Hello,it seems I am at fault here.I made the assumption that you like the rest of the world would know that when you don't have enough money to pay 90 people, you let some of them go.This is general knowledge like Earth isn't flat, you shouldn't jump of the tenth floor of a building and other stuff like this. I am currently looking on youtube for a video to help explain to you the basic way money works and basic financial decisions along with some company management videos. Again I am sorry,I usually don't meet many people who don't have such general understanding of how the world works.I am again at fault here.
So you haven't made a game in 6 years and now have more than one thing in development?Where are you getting the finances to support more than one project currently because even that one giant project-GOF3 isn't even out yet to make you any revenue. At the end of the day if you are wondering why you aren't making enough money it might be because you have a lot of projects at one time and not even one has been fully realized yet to make you any profits. And I have to pay more because of bad company management? With every new comment from you I am starting to realize how bad things are over at Fishlabs, now I hope a lot less people find and play the game to be honest.
Why do you insist on telling us that things look bleak for us, even if that clearly isn't the case? We currently have ten live games in the App Store and another nine on Google Play. And we belong to a world-leading premium games publisher that has been in business for more than 20 years and owns dozens of best-selling brands. Really, we're fine. And we will stay fine as long as we make games that at least have a shot at standing their ground in today's economy. The app you want us to make, as much fun as it might be, would be still-born in today's app market. The app we're making has a fair chance. I guess, I don't have to explain why we prefer the latter option...
citation please. Know what, I'll do it for you, see below. To put it bluntly: None of your business. So you have insights into Fishlabs' books that we mere mortals and unwashed masses don't? Mind sharing? As in "citation please". Mirror mirror on the wall... ok ok, I'll try to stop after that one, getting more snarky by the minute. That one's easy to answer, Tobi: someone didn't do their research facts are so overrated, don't you agree? ------- Awards "Mobile Excellence Awards 2012 - Best Entertainment Related Marketing Campaign" for Sports Car Challenge (2012)[6] "Digital Communication Awards 2012 - Best Corporate Game" for Sports Car Challenge (2012)[7] "German Game Developer Awards 2011 - Best Studio" for Fishlabs Entertainment GmbH (2011)[8] "German Video Game Awards 2011 - Best Mobile Game" for Galaxy on Fire 2 (2011)[9] "7th International Mobile Gaming Awards - Best Sport Game & Operator's Choice" for Snowboard Hero (2011)[10] "German Game Developer Awards 2007 - Best German Mobile Game" for Blades & Magic (2007)[11] (from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishlabs_Entertainment)
1.The finances question is pretty good because up until now Toby has said that the company was about to go bankrupt sometime ago, that means that those 20 live titles on Google Play and the Appstore didn't make them enough money or they wouldn't have to file for bankruptcy. So that means the finances come from Koch Media/DeepSilver.This is very important because when we were talking earlier if Koch Media had any impact on the F2P model of GOF3 and Toby said NO,that means that it was sort of a lie.Let me explain it like this-Fishlabs without Koch Media doesn't have the money to develop multiple projects,it didn't even have the money to support the old projects so now as normal economy talks to us-Koch Media would like some of their investment back and that is why we are discussing the F2P with let me remind you a TIMER and 3 CURRENCIES.This is to maximize profit and repay some and hopefully gain extra money for Koch Media. This is normal BUSINESS. I did my research quite well
No, you didn't. Your making a lot of wild guesses and assumptions and stating them as facts. Half of the apps we currently have live on the App Store were released AFTER we joined Koch Media. And Galaxy on Fire - Alliances was released BEFORE we joined Koch Media but AFTER we had filed for insolvency. BEFORE we joined Koch Media, we had already added free-to-play mechanics to the iOS version of GOF2 with hindsight. BEFORE we joined Koch Media, we had already released GOF2 on Android with a new in-game economy that works better on the free-to-play market. BEFORE we joined Koch Media, we had already developed and softlaunched Alliances as a full-fledged free-to-play game. BEFORE we joined Koch Media, we had already taken the fixed price off of smaller and older titles, like Snowboard Hero or GOF1. BEFORE we joined Koch Media, we had already started development on GOF3 as a free-to-play game. And now you claim that Koch Media is behind our decision to release GOF3 as a free-to-play game!? Please, just leave it be...
And again we have a misunderstanding-I claimed that what you said earlier was SORT OF a lie and I phrased it that way for a reason.I already knew that you had IAP in previous games and warmed up to the free to play model for gaming but that doesn't change the fact that with a smaller development studio working on a single project-GOF3 that the next GOF installment could have been a premium game and still made you a lot of money. That is what we have been talking about for a couple of pages now-downsizing the company but because you are under Koch Media at the moment and have 90 people working on multiple projects,to come to us and tell us how unfair the appstore is in 2016 is just not right.GOF3 could have survived as a preemium title but your current condition doesn't allow you to sell it as one-I have been saying that for a while now,I don't see why no one has understood it yet.Right now we will enjoy a filled with IAP's GOF3 because of Koch Media in particular not just because of the appstore changing over the years. Also as a side note-Capcom released MHFU for 15 euro on the Appstore-a huge preemium game that made them quite the buck.Weird how that happens,eh? Btw which new games are you referring to that are live after you joined Koch Media? What else is there?
