Seems pretty good for a port, it says it has substantial improvements over the original. At least all the artwork looks like it was designed with the iPhone resolution in mind, that's what bugs me most about crappy ports.
Well you'll be waiting for a LONG time The devs are so uninterested in this game, that I don't think anything will be done to it in a years time.
I think it would be much easier to beg for a quick recoding of the expansion packs and a temporary price drop (as Izzy suggested) rather than a complete redo of the game, as much as I would love to see it happen. The devs have other successful games on the App Store; they understand supply/demand. As far as I know, this is really the only true collectible/trading card game on the App Store (ElementalMonsters TD doesn't really count). There is obviously a market for this type of game. If Orions got an expansion and a price drop it is likely that at least some of the major app reviewing sites would mention it. Several sites (including TouchArcade) had broadly positive feelings towards the game when it was released; many of these sites (including TouchArcade) note price drops and updates of games they've liked in the past. I haven't yet heard back from the devs, but I do know that more individuals emailing them certainly won't hurt.
Well, it'd suffice if you released the two add-on packs with all the cards. I don't think many would want to play Campaign with the new cards in place, particularly if you also plan to support multiplayer. BTW, any thoughts on lounge-based multiplayer compatible with both WinMo and iPhone clients?
Its challenging I guess, but the campaign takes a long time and its not really that interesting. The requirements for certain cards are so steep (building like 8 buildings) and the resource gathering isn't well balanced either. You end up building loads of those green converters and spamming 1 or 2 cards. Nowadays, I just pop in for the odd duel: Extended Deck Balanced Deck Against hard CPU. I find it very fun this way, but I also yearn to play against a person. I don't know anyone else who has this game and is good at it, so I use the same couple of tactics against the computer and it usually works. It's also a bit unfair with the advantages a hard CPU gets (more mana at start.) O I really do want multiplayer
Yes. We simply need to voice our opinions. We need to email them! I've been playing Orions nonstop since this whole discussion began and MAN, do I ever wish it had online. I'd seriously pony up 10 or even 20 dollars for online Orions. They have a great product but ****ed up in the marketing department. They just seem VERY out of touch with the AppStore/iPhone/iPod touch industry as a whole. Such a gem in their hands and they decided to price it at $5? Now I'm not saying it's not worth the asking price (Holy shit, is it ever), but since it was a port from an older game, I think they could've afforded to price it lower and thus increase visibility/market appeal. Also this quote from the developer: He was referring to bluetooth multiplayer. Out of all the iDevices, only the 1st gen iPod touch wouldn't be compatible. How does he then conclude that "most people would be unable to use it"? I'm fairly certain iPhone, iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS/iPod touch 2nd gen outnumber 1st gen touches by far.
Hey, isn't the "hard" level just longer? Is it really more difficult AI do you think? I play on normal just to keep things movin quicker.
I shot out a few emails, but have not gotten any response yet. All this talk has refueled my Orions obsession, though!
Same. I do believe if we poke them enough times, we'll get ourselves at least an expansion pack update.
Yeah, I just played twice this evening. You know, this is really polished compared to a lot of crap in the app store. At least we're lucky that way....
I emailed the developer, and I got a response - not too different from what's been said already: "we'll make expansions, no idea when."
Hello. You don't need to bomb us with emails. We've decided to release expansions anyway (as I said in the beginning of this thread), but it won't be our top priority.
I think they're just trying to let you know that you have a dedicated fan base for this game. I've been following the Orion's threads as well, and while I don't currently own Orions, if I knew that it would be receiving the fixes that appear to warranted from the user commentary, I would definitely pick it up. But I need to know that the developer is willing to keep working on it. It looks to be an awesome game.
I think Orions was a great game that no publisher would enthusiastically touch as they didn't know HOW to promote it. Give us a re-release or one of the promised expansions and the TA community will SHOW YOU how grass root marketing can be done, it's that simple. If after making this concession to your fanatical fanboys it DOESN'T get decent sales, just kill the series and never look back. While this might piss some fanboys off to know the project after being revisited is finally killed, I know I for one would appreciate honesty over vague and hazy future promises.
