That's a very interesting idea, now that free apps can have in-app transactions. Orions as a free app would have a level of polish and depth that few others in that category could compete with. Rather amazingly, the duel mode of Orions still gets more play by me than any other game, despite a number of bugs and a complete lack of developer attention or updates. If I were them, I'd seriously consider cutting the campaign mode and releasing a duel-only version of Orions (perhaps with a more user-friendly tutorial) as a free app, and sell a multi-player add-on (e.g. for $3-5) along with follow-up expansion decks (e.g. $5 each) or even small packs of cards (99c for a set). What fan could resist? I mean, all the hard work - design, art & resources, the excellent game design balancing - are all done. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
This game certainly is one of the worst managed games in the App Store. It has fans, it is a great game, it has potential to sell tons, and the developers seemingly drop it... ...so sad.
I'm going to give this thread a titanic gravedig. I really want this game to be improved, and it's not really that difficult. All the groundwork has been laid and it's simply a matter of expansions and bug fixes. I still believe that we can convince the devs into updating this game. *goes off to send email*
Be careful when "bumoing" threads, you can receive an infraction for it... *points and laughs at da shiz*
QFT The developer freakin lied to me about a month after it released when I asked about the expansions. Said they were going to release more cards, just said it would take time to implement the code (it's not a simple conversion from WinMo to iPhone). But it's been a really long time and obviously they've been making other games. MoreGames does make good games (another one for the iPhone is iDracula...the grandfather of successful dual-stick survival on this iPhone), but I'd really like to know why they have had two expansions on WinMo since forever but totally ignoring them for the iPhone.
Agreed. Orions, with the two expansions, in the best WinMo game (not counting in emulators like SmartGear or FPSce) right now. I can't understand why they're refusing to port the two expansion packs.
meh There are other good looking card games coming out soon (Arcane Clash, Shadow Era, Duels of the Runemasters). I gave up on Orions a while ago - it was good, but w/o updates to fix the bugs and add more cards, I got bored of it. It is a shame - it was a decent card game, but I think these new ones coming out will actually be better.
Orions - I loved that game on my HTC Touch and my iPhone. I've spent dozens and dozens of hours with it. Orions, rest in peace.
They haven't really promised online MP - they refused the idea on WinMo too (I've asked them some 3 years ago, upon the release of the first part on WinMo)
I've yet to find one They're all coming out soon rather than are on sale now. Duels of the Runemasters looks good though, so I may hold out for that. The thing is, the balance of Orions is very hard to emulate and it's an amazing game. Lying devs...
Wow he really wasn't joking was he? Seven months later and still no news. Say what you will but Jaguard is one developer you can really trust to tell the truth.
Agreed 100%. Give me multiplayer Orions, give me in-app booster purchases, and don't even worry about your retirement plan anymore. Should we start sending out emails again...? Sent this: I should have added "OR, at the very least, give us the update you promised almost two years ago"
Three days later, no reply. Pavel was always quick to reply before. I consider Orions completely abandoned at this point. Lesson learned - do not ever buy an app on the PROMISE of an update. More often than not, there isn't one.
Yeah, I gave up on MoreGames some time ago. I'm still playing Orions duels (more often than I'd care to admit!), despite the lack of anything to keep me going - e.g. a gameplay mechanic in which duels mattered, expansion packs - just because the overall balance and design is so good. They have the resources (and, seemingly, talent) to turn Orions from something much more narrow into a much larger success, but they don't seem to get it. Anyway, someone else will beat them to it... at some point. It's too bad.
Yep, already coming - check out Shadow Era by Kyle Poole (who does Battle of Wesnoth). It looks to be excellent.
Well, here's hoping! I'm more interested in well-designed game balance + an overall polished interface than (necessarily) snazzy art. I really like the tiles UI that Orions uses, as well. I haven't seen any other game utilize that nearly as well as Orions has. Open to other things, though... whatever works.
