Too bad the limit for each folder is 12 apps (at least on a iPod 2G) :(

Yeah a bit lame. But I guess it's better than no folders at all especially if we can make unlimited number of folders that can fit 11 pages.

Uhhhh.... iPod Touch 1G is pretty old technology. Just like when you need to upgrade your computer or upgrade your TV to an HDTV, it's time to upgrade your iPod if you want the latest and greatest. Just a fact of life.

iPhone 3G and 1st "gen" iPod touch and original iPhone aren't that far off apart, actually, in terms of internal components. It was the 2nd "gen" iPod touch that has the higher clockspeed on the CPU...the only "real" significant change as far as processing power is concerned.

In essence, if iPhone 3G can run some stuff from iPhone OS4, so too should the original iPhone and 1st "gen" iPod touch.

In his defense, neither the 1st "gen" touch nor original iPhone were really mentioned. 2nd "gen" touch and iPhone 3G were, in that they would run "some" of the stuff. But, again, if iPhone 3G can do it, then the original phone and original touch should be able to as all three have pretty much the same processors and clockspeeds. So it may not be an issue of power at all, nor "old" tech, as iPhone 3G has much of that same tech.

Wait.. 2nd gen won't get wallpapers either? I never read that anywhere. I knew of no multitasking, but didn't know about no wallpapers. Just wondering.

Anyways, since I have a 1st gen touch, I'm probably going to try to upgrade my device soon. I was thinking about getting a 32 GB iPod Touch, but realized there was no point. My Touch can do the same thing the 3rd gen can, except that it can't play music through speakers.

Also the 3G is faster, but honestly, mine's fast enough. I don't need the extra 6 seconds it gives me while loading Plants Vs. Zombies.

Now, because of this update, I want the iPad. However, I'll keep using my iPod Touch 1st gen for internet, music, movies, and the games I have (+future games that'll be compatible.) I hope this doesn't happen: all games having the Gamecenter feature and won't be compatible with the 1st gen. That would suck.

And I don't understand why Apple won't give us the update and exclude us with things like Multitasking or Homescreen backgrounds if we don't have enough power? Why not give us the cosmetic changes (dock), Gamecenter, etc.?

Well, if I upgrade my device, I'll most likely purchase the 16 GB iPad. Or should I get the 32 GB iPod Touch? Nah, I'll get the iPad. I used one at the Apple Store and its fantastic. It feels great in your hands, has an extremely high resolution, will replace my need to use my Dad's laptop (for work/fun), is extremely light, and is fun to play games on.

Now, I need to save up $499 + $69 for the keyboard so I can write documents in an easy way for school!

It doesn't surprise me. One of the important changes between the 1st/2nd gen iPones and the 3rd gen is that the 3rd gen doubled the RAM from 128mb to 256mb. The extra RAM solved many problems relating to apps not having much executable RAM to play with. (1st/2nd gen usually had around 18-20mb of RAM to use.) Given that a homescreen wallpaper requires between 300K (16-bit) and 460K (24-bit) to display, that's just more memory taken away from a device already hampered by a small amount of it.

Given that folders are going to require more memory already (to store the extra icons -- ~12K per, given 80x80x16) you're already dealing with less memory on OS4. (I don't know if Apple's done anything to handle the extra RAM required for more icons though; are they kept in active memory or loaded as needed?)

Well I have 4.0 on my iPod, so you read it here first! Also, iPod has "Airplane Mode" now as well, looks like it just turns off your wi-fi.

Passcode on the lockscreen can be an actual password (with letters and stuff) and you can search wikipedia from Spotlight. That's all i've seen for now.
