It's fun trying to min/max a supply chain Morbus Iff Well-Known Member Sep 9, 2010 236 33 28 #3 Morbus Iff, Sep 18, 2019 I'm really liking this one. It's like colonial SimCity base-building, but with levels, so you always start over with new terrains, new optional challenges, and new goal conditions. The night-time is the only downside: while it makes sense that your workers won't work at night, it's a bit annoying having to wait around for the time to pass, even at x5 and x20. When a single level might have a 45 day goal, you eat up a healthy bit just real-time waiting. shining jade Well-Known Member Apr 1, 2013 387 3 18 #4 shining jade, Sep 18, 2019 I likes this one looks nice! ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #5 ste86uk, Sep 18, 2019 I’ve been saving this and Stranded Sails while I try out games to see what I want to keep and out time into and what I’ll put on the back burner. Hoping with the comment about time during the night dragging that it’ll still be good or something will open up to occupy that time as you progress. tekchic Well-Known Member Jun 5, 2009 452 29 28 Female Software Developer Phoenix, AZ http://www.tekchic.com #6 tekchic, Sep 19, 2019 I tried Stranded Sails over lunch today and was so disappointed. The controls are absolutely bonkers weird, it's not tap to move, it's not virtual left stick, it's some very weird drag over the top of your character (thus not being able to see where you're going) thing. I want to play Stranded Sails really badly, but the control scheme is keeping me from it -- I dumped it after five minutes of trying to figure it out. It looks SUPER fun, and I might try it with a DS4 controller this weekend, but otherwise I'm just gonna wait on an update. Sorry for the wall of text, but there's no Stranded Sails thread yet for me to grumble in That being said, I'm going to play Outlanders tonight because it looks like a blast. I'm thoroughly enjoying Apple Arcade so far, despite the wonky control scheme on this one (Stranded Sails) game. I guess maybe that could change or that maybe it’s not a bad thing but I’d prefer a town builder. But I’ll still give it some more time beating some levels to see how it is. At first I thought night time was annoying too seems completely pointless but then I just started using night time to place new buildings and move workers around but yeh still kind of a bit of a waiting game. I also really wish I could remove old buildings when they no longer have any use. MetaGonzo Well-Known Member May 7, 2009 1,459 271 83 #11 MetaGonzo, Sep 19, 2019 Ah but you can! Destroy button, bottom left. Use it to mark useless buildings and the builders add its destruction to their queue. ste86uk likes this. ForTheEmperor Active Member Aug 8, 2015 38 3 8 #12 ForTheEmperor, Sep 26, 2019 Such a great game! On to level 4 now and so far food has been the biggest labour drain, it takes a lot of people to make enough food for everyone! Morbus Iff Well-Known Member Sep 9, 2010 236 33 28 #13 Morbus Iff, Sep 26, 2019 Indeed! And the tomatoes take SOOoOoO long to grow I only got past level 3 (and optional objective) with four farms, fully planted, fully employed. ForTheEmperor Active Member Aug 8, 2015 38 3 8 #14 ForTheEmperor, Sep 27, 2019 Exactly. Right now I’m on level 4 with 10 adults and 4 children, I have a wheat farm (4 workers), mill (2 workers), and 2 bakeries (4 workers). Those 10 workers dedicated entirely to food with nothing else getting done are unable to feed those 14 people!!! If I put just 2 people into foraging then suddenly I have excess food. I feel like I’m missing something major, hopefully it’s just a balance issue with how long bread takes to make. Morbus Iff Well-Known Member Sep 9, 2010 236 33 28 #15 Morbus Iff, Sep 27, 2019 "Excess food" doesn't seem like a bad thing - it never seems to rot. I *always* have people forage, so that I can build up giant stores of food until I get enough production with alternatives (i.e., farms; I haven't tried level 4 yet). Adding more foraging huts is one of the first things I build. Early on, I put as much people as I can into foraging. When the area seems to be getting sparse, I'll bring it down to 1 person. When the area is empty, I'll reassign that person somewhere else. The mushrooms (at least they did in level 3) seemed to grow back, so after a week or so, I'd start putting people back in there. Even with all that, I still had a few days where people were going hungry (in level 3). Wrigg1ey New Member Oct 3, 2019 1 0 1 Female #16 Wrigg1ey, Oct 3, 2019 How you guys getting on? Hit level 4 and I’m struggling. Morbus Iff Well-Known Member Sep 9, 2010 236 33 28 #17 Morbus Iff, Oct 4, 2019 I just finished level 4 on my first try. My layout was pretty much solidified by Day 45. It's attached. There are two farms here, with nearly full plot allocation. Each farm has 50% tomatoes and 50% wheat. You'll also notice I've got my Sawmill built, right alongside the existing Bakery. This was the engine that pretty much completed the game for me. By Day 45, I started Prioritizing the Wickerbread Man - it needs 20 wood and 90 bread, and that takes a loNNg time for the builders to move over there. With all my building down, I had one builder start hoofing over all the supplies. He didn't complete bringing everything over until Day 82. With all the supplies there, it takes 300 man-hours to complete the Wickerbread Man. I had 2 to 4 builders working on this regularly, and I completed the level, with an optional objective population of 13 (10 adults, 3 children), on Day 91, nearly half the required completion (Day 180). Some other random tips: * Your workers will grow old and die after a while. * Use your decrees well. I told my workers to stop sexing until folks started dying, always maintaining a 13 population. At one point, I had 14 and pulled all workers off the Wickerbread Man until someone died. (Nothing makes your horny and hungry like a funeral.) Happiness is not a factor on this level either, so I would work everyone Hard until about 70% happiness, then stop until folks were 90% happy, then rinse and repeat. Nothing bad ever came of this. * If you run out of mushrooms, pull your worker off of it. They'll grow back. * The farm really has only two modes: planting, or harvesting. Once the entire plot is seeded, pull all your workers off and have them do something else. When you see wheat stalks or tomatos, put your workers back on there until you're fully harvested and fully seeded again. * In the screenshot, you can see I started to build another farm and lumberjack at the top. I ended up canceling the lumberjack, and only about 20-plotting the third Farm, with one permanent worker. Given that I completed on Day 91, I doubt I really needed this, but I'm always focussed on generating lots of food stock.
