Could anyone out there help me?
Here's my problem: An error occurs when I receive an email message in Outlook on my Mac: "An unknown error has occurred"
Is there something I can do myself to fix Outlook?

    Hello and welcome to TA!
Unfortunately, this is one of those super-generic error messages, so without more info it'll be next to impossible to help you.
There should also be a numerical error code, like -12345 .
With that, you can google for more details than I got here https://goo.gl/UkGfS6 for the generic error message. The link also has error code examples in the first hits. Even if you cannot find info on the exact error you have - which is unlikely - other articles could give you some info on what to try.

If you cannot fix it yourself, ask someone you know who's tech-savvy, check in at the nearest Apple store, or go for computer store in your area.
From experience, most likely it's easy to resolve and shouldn't cost you more than a few bucks - only in tips if you get lucky: some stores do simple stuff like this for free even, in the hopes to get you as a repeat customer. Just be nice and do not expect to not pay anything.

If all else fails, post the whole error message (you should have done that right away, tech support 101 ;) ) , e.g. both as a screenshot and full text (usually, you can mark and copy/paste the more detailed error text).

Let me know how it goes ;)
