Beta will likely happen in the next few days! More details coming very, very soon Soft-launch countries are to still be determined.
So if there’s a soft launch does that mean there will be no possible way for me to download it? Because I only have a USA account.
The closed beta will be available worldwide, so you will be able to get onto that as long as there are at least 6 players in your region. Unfortunately, it is unlikely at this point we will be soft launching in USA. But good news is that the beta will always be available to you. And yes, the beta will be through TestFlight and Google Play
Thanks, awesome stuff to hear! Can’t wait to test this game, it looks like a great time killer plus a very graphically pleasing game.
Hey everyone! We have something exciting to share with you! We are looking for beta testers, so we have just created a new Discord server which can be found here: https://discord.gg/rBHzEMd We will keep you updated on progress for when we are going to start beta testing (beta will hopefully start in the next few days). Once you have access to the beta, this server will be all about getting your input on the game so we can make the most out of the beta period before global launch on iOS and Android in early 2019. We look forward to showing you what we've been working on!
The first match of the Pico Tanks beta was a really big moment for the team! Thanks to those players for battling with us and to all the beta testers helping us to improve the game. Join the community to get access to the closed beta here: https://discord.gg/rBHzEMd
Back up your tank with some extra firepower. Even if you go down - your cannon turret will fight to the end!
Is this maybe TOO much wind? We've made the trees move using a wind shader and they are also pushable by the tanks.
Finally! An explanation to that insane weather Pico Tanks had as witnessed in our last post (Someone may or may not have increased the tree-bendiness by 5000%) Pico Tanks is made in Unity, and the trees move using a wind shader that can be controlled easily in the Unity editor. The trees are pushable by the tanks and are affected by nearby explosions and projectiles, making the environment dynamic and alive. Pico Tanks is in beta for mobile! You can become a tester via https://discord.gg/rBHzEMd
Thanks a bunch! If you're interested in the beta we would love to have you play. You can join on our Discord https://discord.gg/rBHzEMd
Before we release a new beta update, the team need to test the version together to make sure everything seems okay. We are always on the lookout for more beta testers! If you're interested, please join here: https://discord.gg/rBHzEMd
Here are all the changes made since Pico Tanks beta began: https://bit.ly/2HqFck6 The most notable inclusions are: - New game modes (1v1 Showdown & 2v2 Battle), maps, & tank skins - Region select - Weapon refinements & MOST importantly: - Ducks that waddle around the map
There are 1090 3D meshes in the game currently, and counting! James, our 3D Artist, shows the steps he takes to create 3D objects in Pico Tanks. This particular truck took about a day to make, and it can be found in the environment of the forest map. Join the Pico Tanks beta here: https://discord.gg/rBHzEMd
If you like: explosions, crazy weapons and abilities, quirky customisation, and insane online multiplayer mayhem, then we'd love for you to help us beta test Pico Tanks, a cute & zany 3v3 tank game coming soon to mobile! https://discord.gg/rBHzEMd
Hey guys, It's really amazing to see how the project evolved since initial posts back in November 2017! Really great job! I'm not sure if someone already noticed, but your game reminds me of another title with tanks — it's called Tanks a lot! And my question here is, despite graphics, how your game is different?
Hey! Thanks for sticking around for so long! We noticed Tanks A Lot quite a while after we started developing Pico Tanks, which is a shame, especially because they have such a bigger team than us and hence managed to release it before us. Similarly with Brawl Stars. In the comments of this post, I go into a few of the differences between Pico Tanks and Tanks A Lot: https://www.reddit.com/r/PicoTanks/comments/a68zc9/is_picotanks_going_to_be_full_of_micro/
Blast those devs of Tanks a lot! Thanks for sharing the differences. Seems legit to me! I assume that your game has some sort of a 'blind' multiplayer, where you just have to wait till someone online joins you or the system picks players for you. Be careful with this type of match-making because if it takes too long to wait - the player will churn and your retention will fall. Do you consider any other ways of match-making: like direct invites through links?
As it is right now in the beta, it does depend on having at least two players searching for a match at the same time. We don't have any bots, so it does mean it can be difficult to find a match :/ We have around 275 people who have signed up for the beta right now, but when that is split over 10+ servers around the world, with many playing at different times, and when you need at least more than one person searching for a game in the same 10-15 second window, the chances of finding a match gets kinda low! To help with this issue, we opened up other nearby servers to players so they can try to find more matches. The Discord also helps by providing a space for people to coordinate their play sessions with each other. Obviously, we can't rely on out-of-app matchmaking in Discord. When the game launches, we hope to implement a few things (we are still in the process of working all this out, though): We could have an in-game friends list so you can see who is online. We would like to have an in-app match invite system. We are considering bots, but only as a temporary thing IF we find there aren't enough players to start with. If we do have bots, we want to keep things transparent and let the players know they are playing with bots and give them the choice to play or not play with bots. We are thinking about not restricting players to one server at one time. Maybe we can have the matchmaking system check surrounding servers for players automatically if there is no one on their current server.
