i absolutely hate it its ruined the hook champ one immeasurably. a game thats pure pixel art from icon to finish has some spazzy ugly OF on it now was no need!
So far, it seems, majority doesn't want the icons with logos. In addition I observed that those who don't want logos on icons are really frustrated with them. I doubt that the absense of those logos would generate as much frustration from those who do like them. Can those people who do like the logos please comment if they would terribly miss them if they were not there?
Yeah I'll be honest dude, you had one of the cheeriest looking icons around, but with the OF logo it's kinda gone slightly tacky. Do they actually require you use their logo or are you just trying to inform the public it's there? I can understand that developers might want it visible to show they have additional features, but it really doesn't look nice... I wish there was a better solution.
I think I'd prefer the Plus+ on the icon, OpenFeint looks very bad on an icon. It would've been nice if the Plus+ sign was on Worms, since it's an ugly icon already The OF on Lion Pride icon looks nice, but Agua Globs and 33rd Division = no,no please.
^^ OF has a very ugly logo i agree. however, I don't think devs should get rid of logos because if i'm looking for an OF,PLUS,AGON game i want to see its logo so i know its not just a random game without any achievements
IMO, they should have the icon on the computer version of the icon, but not on the device version of the icon.
...but not all games with OF include achievements, and plenty of games without any social platform integration have their own achievements...
I like them because most importantly, it lets me know one of these services is in the game and makes me much more likely to buy the game. Yes, after I buy the game I kind of wish the logo wasn't there, but no big deal. I'm sure it's far more important to the developers to let people know one of these services is in their game rather than have an ublemished icon.
I'd turn down a game for having an ugly icon. Not if it was a game I really wanted, but on those days when I'm bored and desperately browsing the app store, a nice clean icon is what it's gonna take to make me click.
Hey Guys, Jason from OpenFeint here. Thought I'd chime! The icon overlay is optional for developers, but we do encourage it. Our idea with it is to let players know when they can play a game that includes achievements, leaderboards, and their friends. It sounds like some of you use it exactly for that, which is great to hear. The idea of having it only on the App Store logos is interesting. Unfortunately, the logos on the "iDevice" App Store are the same as the Home Screen icons. Apple doesn't let developers separate them! Anyway, just want to let you all know that we're listening to your comments. Maybe we need to make it a bit smaller? - Jason Citron - Founder & CEO, Aurora Feint
If the devs do insist on making OF logo part of the icon then making it much smaller would be a good option. Perhaps, also, just the leaves without the circle and border. If the logo is more subtle it would be visible to those who want it and less intrusive for those who don't like it. Some mentioned that they like Plus logo as it takes very little space but don't like OF logo as it takes a lot of space.. The poll has now been up for 8 hours or so and in that time we had 88 people vote and though majority doesn't like the logos on icons it is safe to say that the forumites are more or less evenly split. Taking that into consideration I think that a compromise may be the best solution. If the logos can be made visible without ruining the artwork of the icon, that would be the solution that both sides would be able to live with. What do you guys think would be an acceptable form of representing logo on the icons without defacing them?
I like them, to me they make a game's icon seem a bit more special and it reminds me that there are fun achievements to be earned in that game. I think I like OF's corner thingy with the silver filling better than the smaller free-form icon. It just seems a bit more classy to me in some way.
