Ok, back, and looking at the numbers it is basically a solid split between thumbs up and thumbs down. Again, I went through all of my feelings on the OF icon on our LP thread, but to me it is a positive addition. Great to see Jason paying attention though. I'll keep looking back.
It is also always interesting to see that while it is almost a perfect 50/50 split, those who don't like it are more vocal
I like it better when the OF logo doesn't have the grey/silver border around the logo. It looks way better without it, but so many games use the border :/
The fact that it is almost 50/50 split means that there are a lot of unhappy customers who don't like the current practice. In every thread discussing the logos on icons people are complaining about it cheapening the game, ruining the artwork, etc. Now we have solid numbers that devs should pay attention to. Vocal disgruntled players that make up a large player base should not be ignored. If the logos are not going to be removed they should at least be made more subtle in appearance and take far less space than they do now. OF seems to be the main target of complaints.
Wowzers. Based on his post, it sounds like Jason took note of the issue. Many, again, in fact like/preffer their inclusion. In the specific case of Lion Pride, we are looking at the frameless icon again. Our art director had the full set to choose from and he chose that bordered one (presumably because he preferred the "seperated" feel.) but I'm making him aware of the feedback here. This is important feedback and I much appreciate you taking the time to set up the poll. I suspect we'll have a change / reduction along with our next update. ~Ed
Hey, Etotheb. After reading my own post I realized it was a bit "charged". I am glad that this thread generated a valuable feedback, and thank you for taking our opinions into consideration. Cheers.
I actually dislike the logos enough that when they are added to an icon, that game gets hidden, and it's spot gets filled with something else.
What's so great about the Plus+ icon? It's intrusive also. Can't they make an OF icon that is "clear?" Like the imprint of the leaf icon but the app icon's graphics show? I could have sworn someone just updated their app icon to reflect this, but I can't find it atm.
Really interesting poll by the way. I don't care what some TA'ers say, I really like the polls and think it's a great way to get a consensus on what people think about something. Anyway, I really don't care either way. Sometimes the online service's logos can make the icon look unattractive but for the most part, I think it's good for achievement freaks to be able to quickly spot if the app supports it and at the same time...I just don't really care. lol
I definitely prefer that Plus+ or OpenFeint games have the logo in the game's tile. I have all my games that use these organized together, and it bugs me when I get one that doesn't have it. Most of the games I have look good with the logo on the tile. But mostly, I'd hate to have to hunt around to find out what games use these features, or get them through an update. Icons solve that problem.
I don't like it at all. I think devs put a lot of thought into their icons, and plastering a little logo in the corner of it really detracts from the icon. The icons look much nicer without it. If you play the game a lot already, you probably already know that it's OF or whatever. I assume most people aren't so stupid that they need a reminder on the icon...
those who like/prefer their inclusion will probably like icons with no ugly logos as well. They won't complain 'no way! it's ugly because there's no OF logo on the icon!! OF logo will save this!!''
i really don't like it. They make an icon on your iPhone ugliest that it should be.And the Plus + logo is very ugly,at least for me
I've never seen the AGON logo, but I don't think the logos for OpenFeint and Plus+ are intrusive enough to become annoying. I actually like both of them (mostly Plus+ though). I don't really care either way, though.
That's exactly the route we're going to take with our upcoming title. It's great to have it on the AppStore, but if you bought the game you probably already know what social-community it features, so it's not necessary on the device.
