I agree with EnigmaticOddity, I prefer RPG's that were built for the iphone/ipod touch. A game like Sword & Poker can be played for an hour or for 10 minutes and be just as gratifying in either case. There's no need for grinding or long-winded stories to go through that may stop you from trying to get a quick-play session in.
The ideal iphone game for me would be one that offers loads of content with a pick up and play nature that I can come back to after months of not playing and pick up where I left off without getting lost or forgetting what happened in the story. I have played so many RPGs that I haven't been able to finish because I stopped playing for a long period of time and can't seem to get back into it without having to start over.
I like a variety of games on my iPhone. I normally look for other qualities in a game other than it's genre (like graphics, re-playability, gameplay etc.)
For me it would be RPGs. As primarily a console gamer I find the current generation seriously lacking in this department, especially Diablo clones which the App Store has no shortage of. Zenonia, Dungeon Hunter, Inotia 2, The Quest, Undercroft etc... As long as they continue pumping out "old school" PC style RPGs on the Store, I will continue to buy them.
Well I like a good racing game, open world games, also RPG's. FPS's won't really work for me until a gaming pad attachon comes out.
Well, I chose RPGs which are also my favourite genre on the PC, but I probably prefer point-and-click adventures on the platform, because they are a completely fresh genre to me and I get to enjoy the best of the best with the classics ports. I also like turn-based strategy and tactics games. Personally, I so far tend to prefer ports to iphone exclusives, with very few exceptions like Space Miner, Sway and the Glyders (which are also mostly out of my core favorite genres and in case of the latter 2 use unique iphone features). Ports generally just have so much more contents, depth and polish. And with save everywhere and a good auto-save, any game is pretty much as "pick-and-play" as one wishes.
I've been hooked on match3's lately but the ones with a storyline and some meat to the game. Paradise Quest (my vote) But getting into many physics type games as well: Angry Birds Ragdoll Blaster 2 Tiki Totems and now Tumbledrop.
I like RPG's the most because you can pick it up and play for short amounts of time, say to just level up some, because there are no levels to complete. I think they are a kind of at your own pace sort of game. I also like card games and dungeon crawlers.
I prefer the games I can't find on any other platform. Stuff like Spyder, or Ynth, or Squareball or Zen Bound or Hook Champ. As much as I dig stuff like Gangstar, etc., it's the wholly unique games for this platform that I keep coming back to.
I agree 100% as well games like gameloft's rarely interest me, I like the simpler, more unique ones that are more casual. don't care about RPGs. unless it's earthbound o:
Yeah, I'm actually not that crazy about most Gameloft games. They are enjoyable, and I have played many of them, but most of them are ported clones onto the iPod. I'm not into most casual games, although I do like a few. My favorite genre of gaming is RPGs, but I have yet to see a unique RPG well suited for the iPod Touch. If they could make a decent RPG for the iPod Touch that is best played on the iPod and not a gaming console, I'm all for it.
I like unique games pretty much. Lots of pick up and play games are unique and havent been made before.
Okay, for those of you that picked other, what other type of genre were you thinking of? Or if it wasn't a genre, then why did you pick other?
