Was just browsing the scheduled games to be released on Nintendo consoles early 2010 when I hit the DSiWare section and came across this: Gameloft Legends of Exidia - Q1 Let's Golf - Q1 Real Soccer™ 2010 - Q1 Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A. - Q1 Here's the link, scroll down to DSiWare if you don't believe me:http://www.nintendo.ca/cgi-bin/usersite/display_info.cgi?lang=en&pageNum=9&id=2462638 As far as I know there are no other details on it, but what are your thoughts?
Just because it is on the DS doesn't mean it will come for the iPod, but I hope it gets on the iPod if it exists.
I figure you're all waiting for someone to say this, but I'm gonna say it cause it's true... ...still won't be as good as GTA:CW.
Ya, probably should have thought more about this first (thanks mysterious mod/admin) but I just doubt Gameloft would miss an opportunity this big. Just because you have N.O.V.A. doesn't mean you can't try Infinity Project.
Oh DSiWare.. "Hey kids, rebuy for a piece of hardware you already own at a higher price to play overpriced ports of iPhone games! Ignore the fact that our next generation portable is less then two years away and give us your money!" Seriously though, I liked Gangstar and I hope the sequel comes to the iPhone. I'm 99% sure it will.
I have stated in the past that Nintendo and Apple are two very similar companies philosophically. I just find it crazy that Nintendo can get away with releasing a new version of old hardware simply because they forgot to plan ahead for any sort of expansion. Is "oops, we forgot to plan for firmware upgrades" really an excuse to charge people $180 for the privilege of spending $2 on a downloadable Mario clock? Very few companies have the kind of consumer clout needed to get away with that.
I haven't played Gangstar 2: Kings of LA for mobile, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Gangstar West Coast Hustle for iPhone is actually a 3D remake of Kings of LA. From a glance at King's of LA reviews, it seems to be about the main character Pedro escaping from Mexico and setting up shop in LA, which seems to be the same basic story as West Coast Hustle. Given the more limited graphical abilities of the Nintendo DS, it doesn't surprise me that Gameloft would want to use the 2D mobile version in Kings of LA as the basis of a DS port instead of the 3D West Coast Hustle as available on the iPhone and now Palm Pre. Gameloft has released an update to West Coast Hustle for the iPhone to version 1.2.0 to finally fix the inability to access side missions. I wonder how that passed QA to begin with? In any case, Gameloft has mentioned in the past on Twitter that they are considering a sequel on iPhone, which isn't too hard to believe given West Coast Hustle's enduring success in the Top 100. I just don't think it'll be related to Kings of LA on DS.
