But what are some practical uses you have discovered (or invented) for your iPhone, besides telephony and e-mail? What applications do you use to accomplish these tasks? I use iOwn, an inventory application, to keep track of my personal library (books, CDs and DVDs). This way, I have records for insurance purposes and don't buy duplicates while shopping. ($4.99) USA Today keeps me informed of national current events while I'm waiting in a line or lobby. air sharing free memory instapaper and vnc are my picks i think these are some top notch utilities.... Air Sharing Free Memory Instapaper VNC i use the light version of vnc and instapaper they both work perfectly fine and have everything you need in them and by the way how do you link an image????
Air Sharing is essentially a lite version of iStorage. Mocha VNC is an ugly and awkword Jaadu VNC. Free Memory isn't as useful as iStat. I can't speak for Instapaper because I have never tried it and I don't need anything like it.

Watch out for its occassional sales. iTimeZone Immediately see what time the conference call starts in various cities SimpleMindX Free mindmapping app Mobile Translator Requires online access, but is very quick and presented like SMS Gohan HK-based food directory. Instant access to numbers, maps and user reviews Polarize Lovely app that makes polaroids of iPhone pics or existing library photos. Kind of masks the limitations of the iPhone lens quite well
istorage and air sharing are the same thing which ever works, i dont need to spend 25 dollars on jaadu when i get get a less polished version for free...bu thanks for pointing out istat that looks pretty sweet and very polished i will try that out.....
Insurance doesn't care about you taking a video or a photo or documenting it. They will refuse to give you credit. Only thing they do care about is a receipt for anything worth more than a $100 and even then it's depreciated quite a bit depending on years of ownership. Usually if you didn't have more than $10,000 stolen it's best not to even file a claim. Back on topic... Annotater to search my karaoke songs within the PDF..have 15,000+ songs. Appsniper BGG can view my board game collection, wishlist, etc. Daijirin best Japanese encylopedia ever TV Forecast shows season and episode number TED (although don't agree with many viewpoints still some crazy video content) WifiTrak (only reason is to find channels in same wifi area..so you don't set yours to the same...duh)
No problem. I have been using iStat (the dashboard widget) for years so that is the perfect companion for me. Mocha VNC would be alright if I didn't use VNC so much. But I am always connecting to my computer at home for one thing or another so I needed the friendly interface. Last I checked, though, Air Sharing is exclusive to local wifi. I like how iStorage lets me also share files over mobile me, or my ftp servers, or download files from the web over http. So, I don't think they are the same at all.
I read somewhere that Jaadu VNC does not have an SSL connection to your server, thus its totally unencrypted and open to anyone to scan and see what you're transmitting. That's pretty much put the brakes on me buying that app, as there are occasions when I would like to remote home to help the missus troubleshoot. The chances are remote, but what if there's a hacker in the same starbucks scanning the wireless traffic and has an open door to your home computer with all that confidential private data?

'Units' is a good, free, useful app by TheMacBox. It allows you to convert tons of units (excuse the pun) including some units that I have never even heard of. It is easily the best unit converting app on the App store, and it's free!
I use [app]Air Mouse Pro[/app] to use my iPod as a mouse. The best there is. Also [app]Converter[/app] to convert measurements. [app]Wedict[/app] To translate or look for definitions. What's so great about it is you can download different languages so you can translate too.
Grocery Gadget...or whatever shopping program you like. Guitar Toolkit...chromatic tuner, metronome, other things I don't use. Native weather app...I love it's simple 7 day forecast setup. I use Weatherbug when I need more info, rarely. Beejive Pandora and Fstream Mobile News...the AP's free news feed. Where news agencies get their news. Native calender app...pick your favorite app. Facebook and Myspace These are the ones I use a lot. Edit: On the insurance thing. I was hit by a tornado in '03 and a syncing/online inventory list would have been a Godsend. Making an itemized list of everything in the house, from toothpaste and socks to TV's and appliances, from memory sucks...no house left to help jog the memory.
