So I heard that 3.0 would bring with it a proximity sensor. I feel this is the most overlooked feature of them all. I mean, this could come in handy in a bunch of games! But are devs gonna use it? Discuss.
The thing that senses/can tell when your face is up against (or in proximity of) the phone so it shuts the screen off when your on a phone call or listening to voicemail, so your face doesn't press any "buttons"
Wouldn't that require new hardware that some software couldn't fix? Or is that an existing feature. I.E. the brightness gauge.
It's an existing feature that apple didn't allow developers to use. They used it for the phone themselves. But in 3.0 they are allowing devs access to that feature. (aka: API)
What where did I say the touch had one? I just said it was used for the phone. I don't think they do. It's only used for phone calls in the iphone right now. So idk why a touch would have one. And I don't think I've ever seen it being used.
Wait, I know where it is. Shine a light on the top of an iTouch. You'll be able to see a tiny red circle where the headpiece would be on the iPhone. Pretty sure that's the sensor.
I opened up google mobiles app on both an iphone and ipod touch and they are completely different. iPhone has voice activated search and allows the proximity sensor. But the iPod touch doesn't even have the option, it's just typing in to search and the proximity sensor doesn't work.
