Happens to me, too. When my skin's fairly dry, I've got not problems, but if they're ever so slightly sweaty, it creates an insane amount of friction. It's one of the few things that piss me off about the iPod. It's happened to me on the Nano, too. You have no idea how frustrating it is when I'm trying to listen to a song that all the way down in Y, going down for C, at a rate of 4 songs per second (out of 1200)

clean the screen with the fiber cloth provided by Apple. The "smooth" side, preferably. There might be some "grime" that you can't see...but it's there.

Lotion on the hands is okay, but not just before you play any games. All it does is dry up after a while and therefore cake up, and then you've got unseen but still unsightly grime to deal with.

So, clean your screen every day with the cloth, and lotion your hands every day just out of habit (in the morning, etc.). And, being completely honest here, if you do lotion your hands every day in the morning but still experience dryness, go in for a check up...just to be on the safe side. :)

    Doing nothing of importance.
    Somewhere
Yeah I have the same thing happen to me too all the time. I'll be playing a game with a joy stick and my character will start moving awkwardly because my thumb pretty much gets stuck on the screen. Not fun.

Too much effort for a 3 minute game of Meteor Blitz.

Unfortunately third gen iPods don't seem to come with the cleaning cloth.

    Not really.

You should be putting lotion on your hands (and body) every day to begin with. No one but archaic dinosaurs likes rough dry skin.

As for the screen cloth, Apple packed it in for a reason, so use it.

    What?

    Damn.

    That's pretty...cheap...of Apple to do.

"Hey, we've upgraded everything, but...NO CLOTH FOR YOU!!!"

I was just going to comment on that. My original iPhone came with one, the 3g came with one, but none for my 3gs either... luckily I still have the other two, plus a bunch from screen protectors.

If they did do it to save money that's low.

It came with my 2nd gen and my gf's as well, but nothing on the third gen.

Its because the 3G iPod and 3GS has a special screen, so fingerprints don't go on easily

Only the 3gs has an oleophobic screen, not the 3rd gen.
