Played this game on/off for an hour and a half while waiting for various things, enough to get 1 or 2 trophies on all the regular boards and I had about 10 crashes, and 5 or 6 times where it hung but came back (fun to throw all the balls while it was hanging, then they all go flying at once!) (2nd Gen iPod Touch, 32GB) I spotted the moving thing in Pixel Garden but couldn't figure out how to hit it. Almost made 13000 just by hitting the top flower over and over, snagging 500 and 250 pointers on the rebound...
Crashing a lot for me too It's crashing a lot for me on my 1st gen. Touch with 3.0 firmware - I'm also experiencing the long pause before viewing my prizes and trophies (sometimes it registers my touch first time, but most of the time I need to touch them a few times before it registers). I've also experienced non-responsive gameplay where I would flick and nothing would happen and then a second flick would just send the ball into the first gap... I also bought the Adventure Pack (Ninja and Tiki), but this hasn't made the game any more stable - still crashes out to the springboard with the same gameplay problems noted above. Nice game, shame about the unstability (Looking forward to the update to address these issues).
There should be a totally seperate section/thread in TA and in the app store for people to go to and complain about their personal technical issues on their own device. Especially when it comes to leaving 1-star reviews for games because of technical issues that tend to be happening to only the people complaining.
Except that this one seems to be happening extremely widely, and people NOT suffering from it are the ones in the minority. It appears to have been acknowledged by the developers, so exactly what purpose are you serving by pointing out that it hasn't happened to you yet? Why would anyone care? The App Store allows for people to change their ratings and reviews when a game's bugs are fixed, so what's the problem with them warning others off in the meantime? That's EXACTLY what user reviews are supposed to be for. If you have some magic iPhone that doesn't suffer from crashes, you're free to ignore them.
It seems to be a major issue that is happening with a lot of users with different devices. Those complains here and in the App Store are fair and they show the game was not properly tested.
It just seems odd though that it gets through the ridiculous Apple approval process, some people have no problems whatsoever, and it's unplayable for others. There's no rhyme or reason unless it's only 3gs users that can play it.
I DLed this game onto my 3GS and my old 2G, works fine on both of them. As far as the game goes, its fun but after the achievements I don't know how much replay value it has. I'm not crazy about the physics either, they're good enough, but not spot on. Also the purchasable add on packs are better than the initial game.
yeah, its definitely an issue that needs to be expressed and addressed, I just think there should be seperate sections for it aside from the reviewers talking about the actual gameplay and stuff. Of course someone who is having technical issues and can't play the game will 1star review it and trash it. But that doesnt really tell anyone anything about the actual gameplay other than that it might have problems on a few devices. Its a technical issue, should be a technical complaint section, just my opinion.
Is there ever a time when we get more than 9 balls? I wish there was a way to win an extra ball here or there. I can't believe I'm saying this, but a timed game with unlimited balls might be fun. Maybe I'm saying this because the physics don't feel quite right, so it can be a bit discouraging to play a mere 9 ball game. Otherwise, it's a very nice game. I was finally able to buy the ninja/tiki pack
No idea how to see the size of add-ons. I was only seeing the 21.5MB of the initial download as listen on the iTunes store. That's probably enough sub-games for me ..I think I can live without the extra content, so I haven't even looked at it. I'm kinda bored with throwing balls now ..I just wanna take out a gun and shoot the targets. I'll wait for that.
Thank you for your patience. We did all the testing with all devices (1st gen iPhone, 1st get iPod touch, 2nd gen iPod touch, iPhone 3G, 3Gs) in the past 2 months. This crashing problem didn't come up once. All the tester were happy about the App's performance. We do think we found the problem, will need to do some testing to make sure this bug fix release work. Then we will release a 1.01 to Apple as soon as possible. The hardest part is to reproduce the crashes. Our 1st gen iPod touch and iPhone 3G are all working fine. ------------------- FYI, developers are only limited to a maximum of 100 devices for beta testing. And any devices added to the beta list can't be remove. So, we have to leave room, in case someone get a new device, and retired their older unit. Or someone's device is broken, and have to get a new device. Etc. That leave us with a pool of 70 devices max for beta testing. A big difference when compare to 30 million devices out there. They can be running 3.0, 3.01 and 3.1, jail broken. Etc.
I'm glad you found the problem and count on me to test the new build if you need a device that made the game crash. iPhone 3G 16 GB OS 3.0.1 (no jail broken)
If anyone's interested in reading a little history on the game, Louie Mantia of the Iconfactory has written a "Designing Ramp Champ" article on his blog (with a hint about some extra goodies at the end!).
Or a lot of them. Nobody who's interested in a new game is going to go and look in a "technical complaints" forum first. Technical issues ARE gameplay issues just the same as bad level design or whatever. As I've said, most people are intelligent enough to decide for themselves whether they want to take a risk on a purchase based on the proportion of users reporting crash bugs. If it's just one person reporting problems and everyone else saying it's fine, it's probably going to be okay. But Ramp Champ is generating LOTS of people describing the same crashes. There are already plenty of people here who fill up threads with what seem to be reflexive "Woo! Yay! Awesome!" posts whenever a game comes out. There are some in this very thread saying basically "It's got good graphics and that's all I care about, so it's brilliant!" We don't need people with more considered responses being hounded out or chased into a dusty little ghetto by angry mobs for daring to point out problems.
I've gotten more than 1 page of prizes and although I can organize the prizes within a page, is there a way to move a prize from one page to another? Having said that, I like the how the UI was done: you press and hold on a prize to move it around. Its actually exactly how we organize apps on the iPhone / iPod Touch.
haven't read most of the previous posts, and i haven't had any technical issues on my 3GS. anywho, my take: um...eh? if you're going for a skee-ball look, you need the skee-ball feel. See: 10balls7cups. THERE's some good skee-ball controls (i'm talking about the flick, not the swing). if you're going for a ball-throwing feel, at least respond to the flick ANGLE, not just the starting horizontal position & speed. i feel completely disconnected from the ball, taking all the fun from the game. in its current state, and only due to the controls, i'm a bit disappointed i spent $2 on this. that said, the graphics are BEA-FREAKING-UTIFUL! the menus, the prizes, and the gameboards are awesome. so, kudos to your artists.
Perfectly said. Could not agree more. This game's design and variety with 10Balls7Cups physics would be the perfect skeeball app.
