Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here's one that will hopefully answer your question: The performance updates vary depending on the car. They all affect acceleration, top speed or handling, and you can buy them as soon as you have enough cash i.e. you don't need to unlock them. That image above is pretty representative of the sorts of upgrades you get, you can see the carbon fibre flywheel would increase your acceleration, and also the performance rating of your car (from 97 to 98). You can't tweak the actual values as they are set for each of the specific upgrades, but you can buy upgrades to mix'n'match for the result your looking for. You might also find that you want to have specific cars for specific tracks, eg one that is maxed out on acceleration for a winding track, or top speed for an oval. Hope that helps
Roll on Midnight!!! I cannot wait for this. I just bought a gen 4 iPod for this..It is going to be AWESOME!
uh....i love you thats a beautiful screenshot... in the customizing screens are we able to pan around and look at our cars in all their glory?
Firemint busy?! You mean playing online races using RR2, right?! I read that on Twitter. Envy! Questions: 1. Any custom paint job on initial? 2. For "real" race tracks, I want Macau! 3. Any words on the car physics?
Yes, in any of the menu screens that show your car, you can double-tap it to go into a pinch-zoom mode, where you can rotate the camera all the way around the car and zoom in and out. It looks awesome You can see a bit of it in our video, at about 0:15, and here are some more screenshots Woops, busted, hehe Yes, a few of us are online playing multiplayer races while we wait for the app to go live 1. You can respray most of the cars in the colours available for them in the real world, ie they are the manufacturer colors. The exception is the race-bred cars which have their official race liveries, you can't respray those (but trust me, you wouldn't want to, they look awesome!) 2. I'll tell the producer 3. We have spoken quite a bit about physics in some interviews that should be coming out soon - I think 148apps will have a good one. Did you want to know something in particular?
and what about some tweaks for iP4? What we going to have that 3G dont? maybe you can post two screenshots or so.) thanks for answer
The screenshots look amazing. I was excited for this game. But now I'm not....because now I might just explode out of all this excitement welling up inside me. Oh and I think real race tracks would be epic too. My personal wishes are the Nurburgring and the Top Gear test track
Got you! 1. Well, you guys keep on posting that Ford GT, I am buying, it is hot, sexy and muscular, I know.... 2. Thanks. Macau has a mix of urban and hill roads, not to mention the famous hairpin like Monte Carlo... 3. Humm, let's say how do various forces (e.g. airflow, gripping, traction, etc) affect how a particular car is being handled? I will try to sleep well tonight and have myself prepared!
do you have any cockpit view like whats in the car.. another question do we have any rear mirrors to look at to prevent overtaking from other cars.
+1 They look sweet! RR2>GT5! atleast RR2 has smooth shadows! I hope you LEARN something from this Kazunori Yamauchi
We don't have a rear view mirror, but you can see when cars are close to you on the minimap, or you can tap the top middle of the screen to look behind you. Each of the 30 cars has its own authentic 3D modelled interior, just like the real thing
another quick question: will we see a stock driver in the cars? I really liked that in GT5. Even if it just a shadow it really adds to the experience and depth.
I can try to answer that, but I don't know everything and there are a lot of differences I won't even cover, particularly when it comes to effects. To start with iP4 has a different set of assets entirely. We can store them both within the one file because the 3G assets are much smaller than the iP4 ones and they are able to share certain large files like lower mipmap textures. So asset wise IP4 has: Higher resolution textures throughout Higher resolution shadow/light maps Higher polygon cars rendered at higher level of detail throughout 'see through' windows with car interiors Fully 3D wheels and hubs (tonnes of poly's here) Fully 3D headlights (rather than a flat texture) Much more detailed tracks, with higher polygon counts, more textures, many more objects, different techniques etc Higher resolution car interior textures and obviously all the 2D overlay stuff is Retina level of detail also As far as effects go, there are a lot of differences here that I can't think of. Everything in IP4 has a unique custom shader using Open GL ES 2, so even effects that should be the same are usually different and better on IP4. A great example of this is FOG, on ES1 the fog has to fade fully out to the fog color eventually, on ES2 it can use a non-linear shader for much better blending with the distant background (I am not sure what it uses exactly, but it does look a lot better, and more subtle). See below for some of the FX improvements on IP4. Better shadow/light prediction (ie when the car is in shadow or light) Specular highlights on cars Reflections (this is a special shader in RR2) Better Fog Better Lighting Better particle FX Better quality level of detail systems There are also some full screen FX but we disabled these while you are playing on IP4 in order to ensure maximum framerate which is ultimately what matters: Depth of Field Motion blur You can still see these effects in cutscenes. The 3GS actually gets some motion blur in game, it has a lower resolution screen so the full screen effect doesn't impact frame rate. The other big thing you get on the newer devices is a higher and more regular frame rate...oh, and awesome loading times This is all that I can think of off the top of my head without talking to our coders.
Yes, there's a 3D modelled helmeted guy in the cars, most of the time cars will probably be too far away to see much of him but when you get close enough you can see he's there
I think... I think I'm about to (beeeeeeeep). Those screenies are... are... (beeeeeeeep). Cannot wait for this game. Still saddened to see there is no rearview. Any reason why? No offense, but Ridge Racer has 'em. And honestly, having to tap the top center of the screen kinda discombobulates me during a race. Any chance we'll see it implemented in the future?
