Hi there! I'm very happy to announce that Reigns will be released next week (August 11). In Reigns you play a dynasty of Kings. Advisors come to see you about various problems in the Kingdom, and you must rule. The only thing is that you only have two possible answers. It's a bit like Tinder mixed with Game of Thrones. Sort of... There are 750 cards in the game: each reign is different every time, with events spanning over centuries. The game is published by the good folk of Devolver Digital. The music is made by Mateo Lugo and Disasterpeace, with SFX by Eric Van Amerongen. There are more info here : http://reigns.game and here : https://twitter.com/reignsgame Nerial (gamedev)
Thanks! Yes, the release was initially set for the 4th, but we were a bit late on the translation, so we decided to postpone one week just to be sure. Very happy about the reception of the game so far (we did good playtest). Can't wait for players to dig in the game and discover what we put in there. Mwahahaha.
Cool. Given it sounds like there's some replayability, seems reasonable. Hopefully the game does well and it will be worth it to add more cards and such that will enhance that even further.
Hi there! Your game really caught my attention! If you ever need some help translating the game into Russian, just let me know! Cheers
@nerial I've watched a few gameplay vids and am very intrigued, but wonder if I'm missing something obvious, as I can't tell if the dots above stats highlighted with a given decision are positive or negative impacts on a given stat.
The dots just show that your decision will have an impact. It can either be positive or negative. You have small dots and big dots for small and large impact. Depending on the question asked and the answer given, you can imagine in what direction it will go: send the army to fight will weaken the army, but recruiting new troops will strengthen them. Not wanting to build a basilica will weaken the Church...
Most of the times, by the context, that is clear, true, but is there a deeper reason why you didn't color code the dots green and red?
Yes there is. We did what you said and noticed that players were very quickly only focusing on top icons, ignoring the text. Which is fine in itself, until you take decisions that have impacts beyond the 4 icons on the top. Like starting a crusade for example. It opens up a new range of cards and if you miss that, it doesn't make much sense. This way you can detach a bit from "min/maxing" your data, and focus a bit more on the events themselves. It doesn't impair your ability to make long reigns, you will have to learn to take your decisions depending on the different characters and the different events appearing (the outcome of a specific card are always the same). Reigns is a light management game that expands toward some sort of special adventure or narrative game.
Been away from my account here for a couple of days and to say I'm stoked for this is an understatement. Looks fantastic!
