I am sorry but I do not like the art. The gameplay, on the other hand, is brilliant... perfectly distilled essence of rogue-like... R. Knizia truly has remarkable talent.
No zombies that I have seen...YET. But the hedge mazes have minotaurs and the castle ruins (the next set of mazes unlocked once you successfully clear the hedge mazes once) adds new twists like ghosts and the mazes there will often start with a few tiles on the grid already in play.
I totally understand your huge disappointment, I think I'll skip this game because of this missing feature.
Based on that alone that Through the Desert has been submitted I'm gonna buy this. Dang it's insane all these great board games. Pretty soon I'll be ready to move into a house the size of a outhouse and be happy with my ipad and toilet.
NINE!?!?!?! Ugh. I made it to lvl 5 and trapped myself in. As challenging as it is, I love this game. So many great games lately, my wallet is weeping!
That overwhelmed me a bit as well at first but then I figured out how to really focus first and foremost on just making sure I had a path to the exit and kept my attempts at snagging big booty or even going out of my way to avoid fights on the back burner and I seemed to make it through.
Glad to know there are 9 levels to the hedge maze. I made it to level six and wondered how many more I had.
Yes, there are nine levels to each scenario. Pretty straightforward at first, and really challenging ones when you get to the Dungeons (with locked gates and dragons that take two swords to dispatch). I will note zombies on the wish list for future expansion packs
This game is really good! I read this thread and took a gamble on it due to the positive posts here, and even though I was a bit apprehensive with the comparisons to Cardessone which I bought and never understood the rules for at all, this games is easy to get into but hard to master. After many, many tries made it to level 9 on the Maze levels and the last tile was useless to me, so I closed of my exit, dang!! I really hope some more mazes will be available in time, as 3 is just a bit on the underwhelming side, especially with such a great concept - this game has has the potential for being a Classic!! As someone wrote earlier, the only other thing really missing in the game is online scoring, achievements and just a bit polish, like making the game remember the last name on the scoreboards and maybe a horizontal mode perhaps? The last one may not be feasible or practical, just mentioning it 'cause my iPad stand/case isn't made to stand in vertical position.. This game is a nice, relaxing contrast to all the hours I've put into Infinity Blade lately, and a testament to the diversity of the iOS game platform for the same reason. Seems like I have to check out more of mr. Knizia's games...
Really a brilliant game! Note that once you get to the dungeons level though, the dragons require 2 swords and you need to collect keys in order to make it through the whole game...
I'm absolutely rubbish at this game but I still enjoy it and keep going back for more punishment ... which says a lot really.
I finally GET the ghosts (not so much how to deal with but what they do) of the Castle Ruins, and they are indeed NASTY! Ghosts will appear on a tile and are harmless UNLESS you connect your path to them at which point they will fly off and create a block tile in some random yet to be used grid space(just a solid impassable square on the space). So if at all possible connect to ghosts EARLY ON so you might still be able to create a path around them.
Actually, I prefer to put the ghost high up near the exit, and connnect to it quite late. This way, once I connect to the ghost, I'm already clear and can reach the exit while the ghost blocks a useless tile. Whatever you do, DO NOT connect to the ghost with the last tile!! (Reiner came up with quite a nasty rule for that situation and I filled my highscore table with expletives when it happened during testing)
The iPhone version is now sent to Apple for approval. We included some updates for the HD version as well: -you can now move a tile by tapping where you want to move it -the HD version is now universal Also, thank you for the good reviews on the App store. They certainly help us! If you like the game, and have not already rated us, please do so.
You're likely not going to play through all 3 boards in one sitting. I've had the game since the night it was released and I still haven't managed to even open up the last board. Each of the three boards can really be looked at as individual games. Once you beat the 9 levels within the board, you open the next board, but that's also the end of the first board you were playing. Your high score is recorded and you're done. You can choose to move on to the next board if you want, but once you've unlocked it, you're free to play that second board at any time, and then it has it's own 9 levels to beat. I'd say it takes probably 45 minutes to play through the 9 levels within a board, if you're able to do so. However, if you make a bad move, your game could end a whole lot faster. I've done that plenty of times now.
Mmm ... You can replay the first board if you want, right? What about replay value? Anybody who has finished .... Do you still pay it?
Yeah, what he said! Each of these three themes are stand alone 9 level campaigns. -Hedge Maze: The core gameplay. -Castle Ruins: Expands the core gameplay with ghosts (once connected to they toss out a blocking tile), pre-placed tiles, and treasure vaults. -Scary Dungeon: Expands Castle Ruins gameplay with gates (need to have a key to exit the level), and dragons (tough baddies that require 2 swords to defeat but are worth big points).
