For some reason itunes decided to tell me I don't have music on my ipod, and there is 10 gigs of "other" space. I tried to add my music back in but it told me I didn't have enough space (that 10 gigs WAS my music )... so I'm attempting to restore from backup. Will I lose any game/app data like you do when you restore to factory settings?
That's kind of what I'm afraid of I usually let it do the backup when I'm syncing but was in a hurry the last time I did it and I closed out of the backing up part. It's taking forever too..... if I have to go back to work before it finishes I may not survive the afternoon!
Basically when you sync you sync your music and apps. So you should not loose anything from that side. The back-up saves your game data though. So if you're last back-up was last week you're going to loose this week's data. iTunes SHOULD tell you when the last back-up was. And yeah, it takes forever.
ARRRGGGHHH.... ok last time I did a backup there was definitely music on my pod.... still tellin me I don't have any on there, but it didn't clear up any space. If I have to do a restore I'm gonna be freakin pissed!
Before you do a backup, unplug your touch from itunes and replug. See if for some reason "other" is now back to your music. I've had that happen to me once and it worked after unplugging and replugging (you may also just want to turn off/on your touch). Let me know if that worked.
Thanks for the suggestions, nothing worked so far . Oh well, maybe I can just play some games at work and worry about this when I get home.
Yeah if you have your touch plugged into the comp and showing up on itunes, and you turn it off and turn it back on, you will have a lot of "other" when it shows back up in itunes. But once you sync, it straightens itself out.
Also, don't know if you have AppSniper or not, but that program will cause your backups to take forever! I didn't know this at first, so I'd do like you and cancel out of the backup just so I didn't have to wait. But since then, the dev has added an option to "clear icon cache" in the settings menu and now my backups take less than a minute. Don't know if that's helpful or not, just know that info really helped me! It is a good idea to do the backup everytime you sync just for this reason.
Good call on the Appsniper hint.... Well I guess it wasn't such a sad story after all. Yes my music was gone, but all my game data stayed intact. (although all the icons are in the 'wrong' places now - not even in alphabetical order ) But I hooked it up to my itunes at work and synced up a playlist and it got rid of all the other... now that I'm home all I need to do is recreate the perfect 11 gig mix of music I had before... sigh.
