I'm starting to feel like the only one here who isn't a big fan of those graphics. They annoy me a bit. Sure, I enjoy Vector Tanks, but sometimes I'd get a bit lost as to where things are and what was going on. Plus, I like my objects to look like, well, objects, and not just wire frames. That's just me, but I'm not big on those vector graphics. My preferences are SNES style, Cel-Shaded, or those PS2 graphics that didn't look AMAZING (well, they did for the time), but at the same time aren't crappy, like Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3.

to be honest....I'm 13, and I really dislike retro graphics, unless the game is THAT good. For example, I hate Doom solely because of the graphics, and I'm not a fan of all the pixellation in Hook Champ....however, if gameplay is fun and enjoyable, graphics do not matter in the least

Oh, well I like retro graphics, just not vector graphics as much. I personally am not a huge fan of NES graphics, but I enjoy many games on the platform since I just ignore the graphics and see how fun the game is to play, rather than look at. Generally, if I can tell what's going on, I don't care much about the graphics unless they're original, have to do with the gameplay (such as with Paper Mario and how many of his abilities have to do with how it's 2d characters in a 3d world), or are just amazing (like in Modern Warfare 2, or just the amount of blood/gore in Left 4 Dead 2).

ya i see where ur coming from....but for me for example, Doom would become better than NOVA if it just had better grphics. I'm just not a fan of all those pixels and blurred colors....I have never seen the appeal in them to be honest

I'm 29, and I grew up with consoles like the 2600, NES, Genesis, SNES, Master System, Game Boy and the classic arcade machines. I absolutely love the look of "retro graphics", especially from the "16-bit" era and the arcade era from the mid 80's to mid 90's. I just prefer the look of well designed 2D game sprites over 3D models.

Though, it's not that I hate modern 3D gaming... But I do feel like many of the older 2D games just age better than 3D in general. To me, most modern 3D games become outdated looking very quickly, due to how fast CPU/ GPU technology evolves. Unless of course the game has highly stylized graphics (like Zelda Wind Waker) or good art direction in general (Half-Life 2, Bioshock, Little Big Planet. etc...).

In response to this question, I don't like living in the past. I'm a very progressive person, and I'm always reaching forward to the latest / greatest technology. And once you've played a game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it's REALLY hard to go back to Spaced Invaders. lol. I don't mind retro; I just don't prefer it, or go "woo woo" for it.

Yeah, like Ive said, graphics aren't a huge thing for me. If they're nice, it's an added bonus, but otherwise it's all about gameplay. I'd rather have a fun game that looks like Doom than a crappy one tha looks like Modern Warfare 2.

I'd rather have a good game that looks like Modern Warfare 2 than a good game that looks like Doom. :)

Retro and vector graphics are awesome!! You gotta love'em! (Hence, my screen name...) Although I enjoy detailed graphic games such as COD Zombies, I really like the geoDefense/spark, Excitebike (NES), and Stompem (iPod TOuch). Although I'm fourteen, I decided on man cause IMO, it sounds better ImaRetroMan than ImaRetroBoy (lol :) )

Retro and vector are sweet! I also like 8 and 16 bit games. I think that they just look plain cool. Don't get me wrong, I like the new flashy graphics too but it's just something about retro graphics that make them so attractive. I'm 15 Btw

I'm almost 28. Grew up on Atari, NES, arcades, my 386 PC, and went from there.

If a game has good art design it will age well. Games that just go for realistic graphics won't age well because there will always be something better that comes along.

I think maybe it's the upbringing, but i can have as much fun playing Megaman 2, as i can playing Bioshock 2, and i do think they both look fantastic :)

To answer the question though, i don't necessarily prefer retro graphics, but some neat pixel art can trigger the nostalgia button (Canabalt was a good example).

I'm sure there was a cohesive point in there ><
